2000th 737 Delivered.

Thu Jul 27, 2006 5:19 am

Fair use excerpt:

Boeing today in Seattle delivered the 2,000th Next-Generation 737 – a 737-700 – to Southwest Airlines. The delivery took place nearly nine years after Southwest received the first Next-Generation 737. This is almost seven years earlier than any other commercial jet airplane has reached the 2,000-delivery milestone. "This is a tremendous day for the Boeing team and our customers," said Mark Jenkins, vice president and general manager of 737 Airplane Production. "The 737 family just keeps getting better and better, and this milestone is a reflection of the continued value our customers place on the airplanes and the people who design, build and support them."

Wow! The entire production run of the Boeing 727, over some two decades, was a little over 1,800 aircraft. And to think that this number is just for the "New Generation" models! I wonder what the total would be if we included all 737s.

Just a bit over 5,000 actually. They recently delivered their 5,000th 737 of ALL generations, also to Southwest Airlines.

SWA is receiving alot of "first" with the 737.

First 737-300
First 737-500
First 737-700
5,000th 737 of all generation
2,000th 737NG version.

Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go AFTER it!

As far as jet-powered civil airliners are concerned the 737 series holds the title by far, so much as I am aware.

However, many other aircraft have had longer production runs:
Douglas DC-3 - 13,400 aircraft
Consolidated B-24 - 18,482 aircraft
Boeing B-17 - 12,726 aircraft
Messerschmitt Bf.109 - 35,000 aircraft

Just to name a few, but by no means a complete list. I'm sure there is a comprehensive ranking floating around out there somewhere.
