Bmi Axe LHR-ALC

Thu Jul 27, 2006 7:36 pm

As has been rumoured, bmi have axed LHR-ALC for the winter schedule. Shame for ALC to loose LHR service

Will ALC return for next summer?

Also how is LHR-PMI doing? - another leisure route but more established

Never thought I would see the day. No BD routes at all to mainland Spain, and only 1 spanish route left. What a shame........

Wonder where the extra capacity will be going to?

BMI axed Nice, Alicante, Madrid, Milan....
All were destinations only flown once daily in competition to other carriers with much higher frequencies.

Although BMI seems to shrink, I can smell some strategy.

with regards to ALC service, is there any chance that this might be picked up (or any mainland Spain routes to London) by JK? I know IB and BA provide the service but I'm trying to think "star alliance" point of view.

Yes indeed like I said in this thread:

"On the European network ... ALC and NCE flights will be terminated. ALC is enjoying high loads but yields are low." RE: Whats The Story With BMI? (by Horus Jul 11 2006 in Civil Aviation)

No. Simple answer.

Loads are very high (especially during the summer) and loads are quite decent.

Can't say now but I'll keep you updated as soon as I can.

A very astute gentlemen. The airline is heading for an interesting next 18 months.

The route does well in terms of passenger numbers but due to competition yields are notoriously low. I can't see JK starting flights to replace BD's one.
