This is actually a good idea, considering the viability for cargo in and out of FNT. With all of the automotive/manufacturing business in the area, there is a strong demand for cargo.

Perhaps this could help take away some of the issues down at PTK. FNT has interstate highway & rail access unlike PTK. Plus, PTK faces serious NIMBY issues, and taking some of the night time cargo ops up to FNT would lessen the complaints.

Good point on PTK, FNT would be happy to accept the tonage from PTK. Who knows what they could build from that. FNT has a proactive and effective team running the airport.

I agree, FNT is doing quite well in recent years, with expanded AirTran service, increased NW service, and getting American Eagle to start service to ORD.

Expanding cargo ops would be great, also considering the airport is on a main trucking/rail route between Canada (less than an hour away) and the automotive/manufacturing heartland on the I-69 & I-75 corridor.

Not a bad resume for a mid-sized airport.

I was so amamzed that city went without ORD service for as long as it did. Two hubbed airlines in ORD and neither one picked up service. Wow.

Was it in '95 or '96 FNT had no air service at all? I know it was recently. Compared to today, geez!! That's impressive.

I believe there was ORD service back in the early 90's but I could be wrong, but for almost 10 years there was no service to Chicago, until Chicago Express (for ATA) operated Saabs to MDW. But they went under, and it took over a year until AA/Eagle jumped in with ERJ service to ORD.

They've had air service long before the 90's, but I don't have an exact date. I'd imagine probably since the 60's/70's.

I did not word it properly, there was a 12 or 18 month period in the 90's where FNT had no air service. That's what I was referencing.

They couldn't be much closer to 69/75, either. You can look down the runway from 75/23 and the loop for 69 is another .5 mile down the road.

Seeing FNT thrive is good news for a city that hasn't had very much good news in the past few years.
