New Bangkok Airport To Begin Test Flights

Sat Jul 29, 2006 3:29 am

Later today the new Suvanabhumi Airport in Bangkok is to begin some selected test flights with actual customers. Can't wait to hear how that goes. I'm currently booked to leave out of Bangkok on Sept 28th, the slated official opening of the airport to all flights. Wouldn't be suprised if that date is changed after today... hope not.

Cheers!

Shock horror... OX seems to have a real gate for my flight instead of the el cheapo LCC extension gates 81-84.

Anybody know if TG sold tickets for BKK-NBK for 1881? It's listed just Phuket on the AOT website, although I believe this A/C will fly to NBK to operate to HKT later.

Will the new BKK also have golf courses in between the RWY?
I asked it in another thread but didn't get an answer: Will the new airport have the same IATA code (BKK)?

One small thing might pose a problem for a golf course between the RWYs - the passenger terminal building!

Yes, NBK/VTBS will get the BKK IATA code.

Hey,

On which routes does OX use its 741 aircraft?

Cheers.

Any routes based on demand.

There is one real 100, and this one.

HS-UTD B747-146 (1975 delivery to JAL)
HS-UTM B747-146B/SR/SUD (1986 delivery JAL)

The latter seats 563, and we had 536 on BKK-NBK this morning according to a F/A. A record for me. As was the the flying time of 7 minutes at 5000 ft on a 747 too. (The flight was more like 15 though actually)

Lately UTM has been doing a lot of HKG runs (OX 200/203) due to heavy loads.

Hey LH747,

How are you?

Thanks for your message.

I am a bit confused. I am flying into BKK on the 12th Nov (leave 11th from LHR). Is it likely, if not guaranteed, that I'll be flying into the new airport?

Will the new airport handle both domestic and international flights? I ask because I read a book, dated 2001, in which it stated that international flights would operate from the new airport and domestic from the old/current. What is happening?

Thanks a lot from a wet England.

All flights from Suvarnabhumi except charter is the latest. And apparently the copycats now want a LCC terminal like SIN/KUL as well.

Govt. officials are obviously saying the airport is still sched to open Sept 28. But, none of the shops, restaurants, lounges etc are finished - in fact nothing has been built shop/lounge/restaurant wise in the parts I saw...

Otherwise, the thing is huge and I liked it.

It probably wont open on Sep 28. If it sure does, probably another technical problem such as the Isaan blowing craters into the new runways and making the whole airport inoperative to make less competition to the proposed NKP airport. See so many small things can happen.  Wink

If things have moved to Suvanabhumi as planned, domestic flights will be in and out of there too. So no worries.  Smile

The answer to that is simple.

Everyone must spend one night in Bangkok because the world's your oyster.  Smile

With the extra time on the ground, the change in airports should be no big deal.

Domestic flights will not stay in Don Muang, whether TG/DD/OX/FD/PG/9Q.

Just a simple transfer to/from A/B gates in Suvarnabhumi.

Glad to hear the new BKK airport coming along to a move for the airlines at last  Smile

Will PG/OX/AK/9Q/DD etc operate from gates at the terminals, or remote stands?

For example the PG ATR's and 717's mostly operate on the tarmac near to the Domestic terminal and Cargo facilities at Don Muang, will they do the same at the new airport, or will they have gates?

Does anyone have a list of lounges and hotels that airlines and hotel companies will operate at the new airport?

How likely is it that a LCCT will be built like at SIN and KUL?

There is a Novotel near the terminal, and according to their hotel guide it should have opened in June. However, it wouldn't seem very logical to open an airport hotel while the airport is still closed... except if they have people staying there who work at the airport.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it on Saturday... hopefully next time (Sept. 1).

According to Lufthansa747 pictures, a very nice airport: has an observation-deck as well - cannot wait to re-visit BKK again !!!
