And You Call This A Travel Agency!

Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:24 am

Now that's about it! and pretty funny as well!
During the last ZRH meet and yesterday's I've seen that a so called travel agency has a KLN MD 11 with upside down wings.
Honestly I either would call the NOT serious or say they don't have a single clue about aviation.
Judge these pictures by yourself!

You can know how to book vacations and work on travel sites and know how to deal with airlines, hotels, and car rental services and not know how a wing looks. There is no requirement that you must know it. While yes you should know what a plane should looks like but you don't have to.

ahhhh, if I walked into a T/A and saw that model on the desk, I would figure the
folks there dont have a clue what they are doing and I would do an about-face.
You are in the TRAVEL BUSINESS. Airplanes dont look like that.
Hell, you might as well take a model of a cruise ship and show it up-ended and heading for the deep six.

Quit screwing around...you might hurt somebody!

Anyway, I bet this agency calls the airline "KLM" however.

That's when I would get worried...! Big grin

Them: "Sir, you will be on KLN flight..."
Pax: "Uh, don't you mean KLM?"
Them: "(long pause)Uh, yeah, whatever..."

LOL!

Yeah, always messing with the customers.

I worked in an office where one employee would put out a bowl of little black licorice-looking "treats" when a "new guy" came on board. They were dog treats. You learned really quick to not raid that bowl, because you were never quite sure....

I wonder if they had a pool on when somebody would notice?

Most people who work behind a desk at a travel agency could not differ between an A340 and a B777....they'll prolly tell you "Yeah they r both bigs, now do you want a beach-view or a city-view?"

And guess what: neither can most people sitting in one of the seats in an A340 or a B777... and they, just like the majority of travellers, simply don't care.

As a side-note (I know that I'm not going to sway anyone from the en-vogue "travel agents are idiots" mentality here, but what the heck...), IATA training includes a complete overview over the types of planes being used, including the ability to tell clients what type of seating configurations the planes have, the approximate range and, obviously, such simple things as the amount of engines.

Travel agents that take their work seriously, and there are far more than most on this site would expect, know things like that.
Smile - it confuses people!

Speaking for no one but myself here, I don't think that professional travel agents are idiots -- those who have done the IATA training, etc., etc. provide a valuable service.

It's the "Well, we have a 'puter over in the corner of our hair salon-and-immigration law office...and I always thought being a travel agent would be fun, let's use Expedia and call ourselves a Travel Agent, too" that concern me.
