MSY-A Pat On The Back

Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:46 am

I just want to compliment anyone else here from MSY, you have done an excellent job of cleaning up that airport, and restoring flight options. As a Mississippi commuter, I take pride in telling people where I commute from. Each week I make the 1 hour 20 minute drive, past GPT, to MSY where I can board one of my United 170's to ORD for work, nonstop, bypassing ATL, and checking in online (Kudos to UAL for the online non-rev check in option). The parking garage is neat and orderly, simple to get into and out of, electronic employee gates. I am impressed with the amount of concessions re-opening, and the clean facilities, and functioning a/c units. (GPT cannot even hold a candle to MSY's facilities). I even had the words "FLYMSY" put on my license plate. Thought I would let all of our MSY members know how I feel, keep up the good work, and drop by Gate C2 sometime to visit when I am commuting.

Colin, thanks for the kind words in regards to our facility. The airport has obviously made lots of progress in terms of appearance...one could say that the terminal area has never looked better.

I know sometimes other Gulf Coast members like to compare GPT to MSY, but let's face it...even after the huge decrease in service post hurricane, MSY still sees 106 flights a day as compared to GPT's 28 or so. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

MSY is STILL the Gulf South's main regional airport for folks living between Lafayette and Mobile. We still see lots of commuters from cities all along the Gulf Coast making the drive to MSY to fly nonstop.

See you around, i'm on the C concourse at least five days a week.

Hey dude, what Gate, I'll have to drop by sometime. Yeah, you are right about the commuters. There is one UA pilot who drives from PNS, ouch. Glad to see Miami Air doing Int'l charters, now I have an affordable confirmed ticket option to CUN when I have vacation time. What we need is a light rail system linking MSY to GPT, MOB, PNS, and VPS. That would be an excellent system. How is Southwest holding up in MSY? I know they really pulled the plug, but it seems they are rebounding, as I saw a poster with MDW N/S flights announced.

MSYTRISTAR,
I was also going to ask you if there is a radio station or internet site I can use to monitor traffic on Lake P, it gets filthy nasty out there between Slidell and New Orleans at times.

Try any of the area stations, including the FM music stations which usually have traffic. Honestly though, if you are commuting at commute times, you are pretty much stuck on the Twin Span. You might want to try crossing on the US 11 bridge. It requires a diversion into Slidell, but usually is less crowded. Also, have you thought about cutting across on I-12 to the Causeway? That is actually the shorter way to MSY from Biloxi and should see a bit less traffic.

Colin,

Thanks for the kudos.....we've been working hard to keep the place running. I've been in charge of coordinating some of the temporary repairs (especially the roofing) to the airport. We've about to complete a $1.5 million spruce-up to the terminal, including lighting, bathrooms, ceiling tiles, etc, etc.

I'll be assisting in the various permanent repair projects (as a municipal agency, we're bound by various procedures for designing projects, hiring contractors, etc), so it's taken some time to get those permanent repairs done. I'll be working shortly with our roofing contractors on replacing the entire roof on concourses A and B, roof replacement on a number of the ancillary airport buildings, and eventually on roof replacements on other areas of the airport terminal.

How about you just settle for the best shrimp you can find and forget the rest?

Ahh.. then I would have to be going to North Carolina.. nothing beats NC BBQ and Seafood..

Besides, I never settle for less than everything.

But it will be nice to see how MSY is doing since 'Trina came through..

Nothing beats NC BBQ I'll give you that, but come on, you can't compare NC seafood to Louisiana seafood.  Smile

Yup.. sure can. But I'll give it to ya.. nobody beats new orleans creole cooking! Mmmm.. lip smacking, momma slapping, ass whacking GOOD!

Hopefully things will be better by early September? US Airways gates and associated terminals in good standing I hope?

This is something you are not going to win. Being from the state with the best ocean fish (California) and living in the state with the best shellfish (Louisiana), North Carolina needs to stick with the BBQ.

Their area is just fine, if a bit dark. Probably want to save on electrical costs  Silly

100% correct. Truer words have rarely been spoken.....

We're gradually getting the terminal relamped. I'm not going to say anything bad about US today.....after all, yesterday they sent the PSA A-319 down here, and today it was Piedmont's turn to visit.....

Nah, not so much. Louisiana seafood beats NC seafood hands down. Everyone in their right mind knows that.
