Jet2 Slots At LGW

Tue Aug 01, 2006 4:10 am

As UK airlines are announcing new routes and timetables for the winter season, one popular domestic route in the UK has yet to be announced.

On the Jet2 (LS) website, bookings for their shuttle route between MAN and LGW are only being taken until 29th October, whilst most of Jet2's routes are now available for booking for the winter season.

So is the service going to continue? I've heard on various threads that LS loads aren't doing so well. Interestingly, they downsized from a 737 to a BAe146 earlier in the year.

Surely LS aren't going to get rid of their slots at LGW are they?

Could we see LS connecting LGW with a different base of theirs? That way they could keep the LGW slots. Perhaps NCL, BFS, BPL or LBA?

MAN-LGW (and MAN-EDI) always seem to be released late.

LGW has such a late booking profile that they can release the schedules later with no appreciable impact on bookings.

Any reason for that?

And do we think the MAN to LGW route will continue?

I think it will carry on yes, been having high loads recently, and the Flightline 146 is an on going lease.

Thanks for that. I thought they weren't doing so well, but clearly not.

As they are doing well, is a new service or two from LGW on the cards for them?

Jet2 have cut back on their LGW slots for W06.

Right now they have a weekday (Mon-Fri) pair of 0800/0830 and a weekday pair of 1755/1825, both from Manchester. There is also a Sunday only pair of 1905/2000. No ops on Saturday all day or Sunday morning.

I'd imagine they can use the spare aircraft capacity for ski flights over winter, theys eem to be making a big thing of them this year!

No - but the MAN based a/c now has a period in the middle of the day, which can be used to fly to a ski destination - in fact, it could probably make two rotations. Previously, said aircraft would have to be earmarked to operate the lunchtime LGW service.

MAN-BGY just announced by LS, tickets go on sale tomorrow for flights commencing 29 Oct. Not seen flight times but this could be what is going to be filling the gap during the middle of the day.

So MAN to BGY could possibly be a 146 route then?

Is the 146 staying for the winter season?
