Best Airline Food

This is for everyone, what is everyone's favourite airline food? And if you remember, what plane you were on?

For me it was on Royal Airlines, which I hate now. I had A delicious Pork Chop, with potatoes, and green peas. For desert I had a tasty lemon pastry. And to wash it down we had Brisk Iced tea. We were travelling from YYZ to YWG on board a 737-300.

i am glad you hate royal because i think they owe me over $1000.00! people at royal refuse to talk with me... not good at all.

air canada served in economy a real nice and tasty chicken burrito for a while with a great tasting taco sauce. i had it several different times on flights in and out of winnipeg.

i normally fly air canada exec and the meals are not too bad... depends on other factors for me... such as... flight time... the "beverage of my choice"... whether i have the sun coming in on my side... (i am a very particular flyer)

i remember have a delicious duck in cranberry sauce on air new zealand first class a few years ago between auckland and sydney.

one thing i really choked up on was having steak for breakfast (the red eye) on canadian in first class from honolulu to vancouver at 0700! this also was a few years back and that was a terrible thing to have at that time in the morning.

I think there have been 2 airlines that tie for the best meals. First, on a KIWI B722 from TPA to MDW we had some of the best tasting pasta and viel you will ever have!
Second, on UAL 733 from TPA to ORD we had one of the greasiest, thickest, most delicious cheeseburgers I have ever had. I am a junk food person so I enjoyed that hot meal.

It may sound strange, but the best airline food I have ever had was served on 1998, December 20th as dinner in Navigator Class (C) en-route from São Paulo to Lisbon.
Now that the catering of TAP-Air Portugal in São Paulo and Rio are responsability os Swissport, my god, what a dinner!!!

The best food I've ever had was when I flew first class on US Airways 737-300 from CLT-LAS in May of '98. I had a grilled chicken breast with sauteed vegetables and a baked potatoe with everything on it. For dessert I had chocolate mousse. It was the best meal I have ever had.

I have 2 favorites also! Surprisingly, one was not UAL. Well, on a 772 enroute IAD-LAX, I got the treat of having a first class meal, because there were 2 vacant seats! Well, it was an amazing Italian meal, my favorite kind!!! It consisted of pasta with great sauce and matzerella sticks with sauce!!! (Spelling?) It was great. Also, on a AA flight SJU-BWI, I had some GREAT grilled barbequu chicken! YUM! The worst was the "Thanksgiving meal" on UA 757-200, IAD-SFO, yuck! They mixed sweet patatoes with turkey, already had gravy on it, etc. It was grose!

Food Story.

Sat Feb 20, 1999 7:31 am

In the 1960's Alaska Airlines had a colorful CEO by the name of Charles Willis running the show. He was always trying to outdo the competion. This drew the ire of many of his competitors including Pan-Am. Juan Trippes boys filed a complaint against Alaska charging that Alaska was serving first Class meals in Coach. The complaint went to a hearing and Willis had one of the company lawyers put him up on the stand. He had the Alaska attorney asking him two very specific questions.

"Mr. Willis. To the best of your knowledge who does the catering for Pan American?". Charlie answered, "Maxims of Paris."

The lawyer asked the second question, "Who does the catering for Alaska Airlines"

The courtroom erupted in laughter when he answered, "Sally's box lunch of Fairbanks."

Despite the brownie points Alaska Airlines lost.

I flew on a Northwest Airlines flight from New Orleans to Detroit on a DC-9 30 and I got a chicken sandwhich. I was in coach. The food on Northwest is pretty good. I also like the usual peanuts they serve on any airline.

I have 2 favorites. One was in 1996 On American Airlines md-80 from dfw to fll. It was a chicken buritto [spelling?] with other things but i dont remember. The only thing that ruined [ spelling?, and i mean made it bad.] it was that i was sitting in the back next to the eingine.

The next was on Aircanada A319 from phx to yyz. I had the beef srogonauf [ noodles with beef, Spelling?] it came with a small salad and a small brownie and a bun. There was something else but i forget.

My best first class airline meal was on DL 1563, ATL-LAX, on 8/15/88, on DC-10-10 N915WA. It was one of the most delicious steaks I have ever eaten, and they even asked me how I wanted it cooked. This has never happened to me since. They usually tell me they are all cooked the same way. We had ice cream sundaes for dessert.
My best coach meal was on 5/19/67, AF 015, B707-328B, ORY-JFK. It was filet mignon, and they kept bring delicious French pastries throughout the flight. I still remember this flight and the meal to this day.

My Favorite food, on an airline, has to be the PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY sandwich when I flew from Columbus OH to ROA. I have to say it was on an airline, because it was being chartered from some place. I think it was a Lear 24.
See ya later,

CaptainPeter: Lots of USCarriers have GREAT food and snacks! Infact, if you take a look, I belive there are quite a few people in this discussion that like USCarriers food! Infact, I belive at places including IAD and JFK, more than 2 airlines use the same companies. This could be like BA and UA share a kitchen at DEN (example!), so theres an example that shows International and Domestic US carriers can have same/better food!

One of the more memorable in-flight-meals were in Dec 1990 on a flight i business class (on upper deck) with Korean airlines on a 747 -400 between Paris & Seoul.

On the menue they offered the latest beausoulais noveau (?) wine with the main course. After 3 attemps from the purser to get the right wine he finally located it and insisted me on having the whole bottle when I just wanted a single glass.

I also recall flights between Bangkok and Hong-Kong in 1987 onboard Thai Airbus-300 in business-class when after a delicious full-course meal they always offered
cheese, wine & grapes. At these flight I learned to love
blue (moulded) cheese.
