Antonov Visit To LHR

Wed Aug 02, 2006 11:57 pm

LHR has a unusual flying visit. Polet Flight Antonov 124-100 Ruslan Reg RA 82080 is on stop over. Apparently carrying aircraft engines. For whom and where unknown. Anyone know when its leaving as I'd love to get a photo of her going ?

Basically thats the reason why we have the searchtool .....
Anyway I was there when she arrived, weather could have been better .... , anyway you will see the arrival in the DB soon as there have been a lot of photogs to get that seldom bird into LHR .

I heard it was for an AA 777.

Don't know if its still there, but reports suggest a 2100 hr departure Tues or Wed.

I'll try and post some for you guys later!

Hello all,

FYI

Aircraft landed at 1420 on tuesday and taxied straight to stand 576.

It brought in an engine for an AAT7 ship N758AN/7BT which lost the use of an engine on it's way to LHR a couple of days ago. Pilot landed on one engine with full emergency procedures.

Inside the Antonov when it landed was 1 spare engine on a special cradle, and 1 spare cradle(empty).

(I managed to get on board about 5 mins after it landed, even before the back was open)........

The aircraft now has the kaput engine on, and the empty cradle and is ready to go back to DFW or AFW (not sure) but is having trouble getting a slot.
Yesterday wheni left the 124, the crew were talking about leaving tonight at 2000 UTC.

Just in case anyone is intrested, the whole operation of hiring the An124,shipping the engine to LHR from DFW and the old on back is costing $500,000.......... the bill is being picked up by RR.(engine still under warrenty).

As a foot note, Ship 7BT back in service, and tonights arrival of AA90 canx to balance equipment.

hope this helps
