NEW YORK, (August 3, 2006) – By President’s Day 2007, JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU) will give customers up to 109 reasons to fly the low-cost, low-fare airline from the Northeast to Florida. Customers can choose from seven Florida destinations (Fort Lauderdale; Fort Myers; Jacksonville; Orlando; Sarasota; Tampa; and West Palm Beach), with nonstop service from five Northeast airports (New York John F. “In addition to up to 109 planned nonstop JetBlue flights between the Northeast and Florida, customers will love JetBlue’s low fares, pre-assigned all-leather seats, 36 channels of free DIRECTV® programming, unlimited name brand snacks and our award-winning friendly service,” said JetBlue Founder and CEO David Neeleman. “JetBlue will offer more flights from New York and from Boston to Florida than any other airline, and is also the only low-cost, low-fare airline to serve all three major New York City airports to Florida. Having the most flights from New York and Boston to Florida’s best destinations is great, but we know our customers care most about the fare they want, to the destination they want, at the time they want to fly, and we are pleased to offer our customers exactly what they want.” In addition to nonstop service from the Northeast, JetBlue also offers nonstop service from Florida to California (Long Beach and Oakland), and easy connecting service to 20 other cities.

Well, isn't that special?!

This reminds of the days of old with DL, EA, People Express & Air Florida slugging it out for this piece of the business. Who will give first on these routes.....DL, B6, FL, HP? Florida will soon be known again as "NO PROFIT ZONE" with all these carriers vying for passengers. Winners will be passengers, Disney & the cruise lines but not the airlines. I just cannot see how this many airlines can sustain these routes and make money.

The thing is, DeltaDAWG, that the demand for flights to Florida during the winter travel season is like an endless pit. I do think that JetBlue knows what it's doing in this case and Northeast-Florida has always been its bread and butter.

Looking at the schedules, it seems as if the added frequencies have not yet come online. The 2nd JFK-SRQ is very exciting too since it's a new market. Hopefully JAX can pick up a 4th. The 7th flights from MCO/FLL-BOS are very nice to see as well. It seems as if BOS is doing pretty well for B6. And despite what many were saying, EWR is actually picking up some frequencies as well...

This is all great and all, but how many new frequencies are they actually adding between the cities?

Quoting GoBlue (Reply 3):

You mean over last year's frequencies?

FLL-BOS picks up 2 flights
FLL-IAD picks up 1 flight

RSW-EWR picks up 1 flight
RSW-BOS picks up 2 flights

MCO-BOS picks up 1 flight

TPA-BOS picks up 1 flight

Of course, SRQ and JAX are new to the system, as well as IAD-PBI.

I remember last year they had a press release about all of the Florida-Northeast flights but this is more impressive, this year's list.
