SU IL-62

Fri Aug 04, 2006 1:05 pm

Is the IL-62 still flying for Aeroflot and have any of them been resprayed in the new colors? I love that plane and think it would look really sharp with the current colors.

As far as I know, the Il-62 no longer flies with Aeroflot. I agree, she is a beautiful bird. My favorite liveries with the Il-62 are the older ones: CSA and Aeroflot's late '60s scheme. The Il-62 also looked good in Interflug colors.

According to the August 2006 OAG the airline still flies a fortnightly IL62 service from SVO to Luanda.

According to the SVO summer timetable that flight is indeed the only IL6 that SU operates. I wonder if the aircraft is theirs or leased from someone.

I think all of them are leased from GTK Rossiya. If you read Aeroflot's recent press releases there are references to other flights operated by IL-62s as well. None are in the new colors...

According with Amadeus.net web page, Aeroflot not flies anymore to Angola. The weekly flight was cancelled last month of May.

This flight does still operate, but it's every two weeks. The next one is scheduled for August 17th, and it's sold out. Waitlists are still open.  Smile

The flight to Luanda is operated by a GTK Russia IL-62.

wouldnt be surprised, just like the KORYO IL62 that turns up at Macau every now and again, except no weapons on board.

Perhaps a combination of weapons and oil company workers. As I understand it, this route is there specifically for the oil industry.

I am actually surprised: IL-62M can do the SVO-LAD run non-stop even with maximum payload. You can move quite a lot of equipment, weapons and money without being spotted refuelling in dubious places like Libya or the Sudan  Yeah sure

SVO-LAD: 7525 km
IL-62M MTOW range: 7800 km
