What's Happening To MEA

Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:38 pm

Hii folcks  Smile

Everyday i tune the news i became more and more disturbed with the situation in the middle-east, more exactly on lebbanon.
With this violent scalation by the israeli army the and with the menace of a total conflit on the region, they say that the oil price could reach $200 for barrel.

With all this said news for all the airline industry, with with the OLBA airport distroyed, who is MEA doing? Where they have their aircraft parked? were any of the new planes distroyed by isreaelis? Any news? I eared that MEA was on the good path to became a very good airline... with this what's going to happen?

I saw three MEA Airbus narrowbodies at CDG last Monday. They were parked on a remote stand. One had stairs tied to door L1.

MEA is currently still operating, however have moved their operations to Damascus (I believe - someone correct me if I'm wrong). All planes were able to escape from BEY unscathed.

MEA was very much on its way to being a great airline again. I can only hope that this current state of affairs can be rectified soon and MEA can return to normal operations ASAP.

Let's leave politics and blame out of this. It does nobody any good.

I believe that both the A330s and A321s are operating from Damascus to a few destinations- Paris, Frankfurt, Kuwait etc. They have also been operating to Canada and Australia on charters.

Sadly, the day before the bombing of BEY, MEA had made an order for 8 new aircraft, including 4 (?) new widebodies. I am not sure what's happening with the order- in the current climate, I assume that the order will be cancelled.

MEA has gone from a profit generating company to haemoraging millions since the conflict- the exact amount has not been released by the airline.

Such a lovely airline! And the airport, voted the second best in the Middle East, was really wonderful- marble clad, very modern, spacious and high class.

hiii

Thanks all, and also you Raffik, my sincere condolences to the families of the dead. I agree with you... the beirut airport was one of the best airports of the middle east, if not the best, with 3 runways and a good infrastructure.

When this war end, who will pay the damage?

I belive it should be created a special courth created by UN, similar to the NUREMBERG to judge de Isreali crimes of war and make them to repay all the destruction they caused to that country.

Lebanon are now in the same situation that existed 20 years ago, if not worst, with roads, brigdes, ports, airports... all distroyed... It is like caming back to middle age.

I imagine that if Spain invaded Portugal, and i live in south near the boarder, i imagine the distruction and the suffer that we will sufer... so i cand understand what the civil lebanese people are feeling right now...

Just keep the faith... and god be with you...

I hope MEA will recover and not be airline that is going to disapear.

Also other airlines like AA, DL, US, and other that are with the rope in their throtes, if the fuel goes sky high, they could be in danger as well...

I think in that in both cases the future is black!

Only through the good graces of the IDF, after a "nudge" from both the Fr & US.

The Lebanese will, of course.

Just keep the cork and the sardines coming or else.....remember that the main armor units of the Spanish Mech Division "Brunete" are just across the southern border in Badajoz & Cordoba! Big grin

The Canadian government chartered a couple of MEA A332's (F-OMEA and F-OMEB) to bring back home canadians who were stranded in Lebanon. The planes took off Larnaca and flew non-stop to Montreal a couple of times. Here are a few pics of the aircrafts in question at YUL airport in Montreal...
