Glad to hear MUC is to get the 777 from IAD

Nice to see KWI added to the network, although I must say I was surpised, I would have thought DXB would be introudced first  Smile

Ay news on DUB getting service from UA? From next summer they will be the only major US carrier not flying to Ireland and there will be still no flights to Washington, surely an easy seat filler for UA?

its a smart move... the amount of money they are passing on to partners via codeshare flights in europe is crazy.

it is a superb business move in my opinion.

mad props to SHUpirate for doing all of that work, it must have taken you a long time, but it is greatly appreciated!!  Smile

I don't think there was any question that this flight would be Military/Government related when it was first announced several months ago. My hat is off to United for taking the chance here in the Middle East and doing something no one even would have considered six months ago.

I have no doubt that this flight will be very successful and it would not surprise me to this go daily or see another US flag carrier here by next year. How about a DL JFK-KWI/DXB 777-200 3 or 4 times a week?

Doesn't EI fly to DC? I know both EI and AA fly to DUB from ORD, so UA on that route would probably be overkill.
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Nothing to do with Varig. UA has twenty-one US-Brazil frequencies, and has to make use of them of risk losing them. So during the winter months, they fly 2x IAD-GRU, which is a poor use of seven frequencies, but alas, they don't have another logical place to use them. The US DOT should force UA to use them year-round, like everybody else does, or give them up.

No EI used to fly to BWI but not anymore. The closest to Washington you can now fly from Ireland is PHL and thats only seasonal

Sure UA can expand; they used the Bankruptcy Court to wipeout a lot of debt, the rest they restructured, their retirement fund got dumped upon the lap of the PBCG, and were able to drive Indy Air out.

UA can expand easily....along with the cost of flying out of IAD. I can't wait until WN comes into IAD in force!!!

That's great and all but IAD is just such a pain in the ass to fly through. The time from the curb to the gate is just ridiculous. As is the time from the gate to the baggage claim on the return. I really like UA but the scene at IAD with the awful C/D concourse and the people movers is just a joke.

Yeah don't see them, I doubt PIT changes.

Current PIT flights:

ORD: 7x daily (3 CR7s and 4 B733s)

IAD: 5x daily (ERJs)

DEN: 2x daily (B733s)

14 daily flights! I can't imagine UA adding another PIT-IAD freq. with the fares they charge! Unless they are going to try and scare WN from begining the route...doubt it. Nothing scares WN these days!

Wow, that's miserable for SFO, if those changes are representative of most days. 3 757s==>3 319s is a loss of 48 premium seats on just 3 flights. For elite heavy cities like SFO and IAD, that hurts.

On the other hand, as someone who rarely upgrades, the A319s are much nicer than the 752s. Gotta' love the row 6 bulkhead with the cutout.

I think they ought to try a flight from LAX to GRU. Now that the West Coast no longer has Varig, a 763 would probably do pretty well on this route.

No more 757s IAD-SAN?? That flight is always packed and has tons of corporate types on board. They won't like the reduction of premium seats.

Looks like a huge downgrade for SAN and SEA.

To what routes will the 757s go? Seems like many cities are losing 757 flights but I don't see corresponding additions.

I'm no expert, but I believe longhaul service at JFK is dead. They either had to compete all the way (many flights) or not-at-all, which is what they are doing. Without the feed into JFK like AA or DL, it was destined not to work out at JFK.

I'm not sure this service will work--just a hunch. While it would improve international service via connections at IAD, I'm not sure that there is enough traffic to support this route.

The flight currently continues onto Tucson, so with the split, the less capacity makes sense.

They're probably better off with a second IAD-GRU. I'd bet the yields are higher.

Read what HZ 747 wrote, he mentioned DL to start JFK-KW/-DXB, not UA. At this point, I dont think UA would respond if B6 started JFK-ORD 10x per day.

UA's 763s cant operate any flights over 12:00hr block time as they do not have FAA required crew rest facilities. (current longest flight happens to be UA949 LHR-LAX at 11:30)

So while a 763 might fit such a route, only aircraft UA could use would be a 777 which would be too much capacity and too risky.

Not in the sense that US Airways is dumping its morning non-stop to IAD. Actually I surprised that this isn't a TED flight as everything else from PHX is either TED or Express.

Why should UA have to compensate because US dropped a flight? Just because a flight was dropped doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be replaced. Though I will admit that it was odd a flight was dropped. It's not like either end is a stagnant market.
Also, the flight hasn't been Ted-ified because of the yields into TUS. They can be much higher than into PHX.

Do you mean "p.s. United?" That stands for premium service (3 class 757s) and is offered on all NYC/LAX and NYC/SFO flights. Looks like to me that there are no changes in that service/schedule.

ExPlus is the business class section of the larger United Express regional jets. And lastly, Economy Plus is the economy product which offers more legroom than regular economy in the first several rows of all United mainline jets.

If you are talking about Premium Service, they only run that from LAX and SFO to JFK. It was never in IAD.
I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

I think the reference was more to the loss of first class seats with the reductions/eliminations of 757s.

That was the first thing that jumped out at me. The hub-to-hub flights (at least through IAD) have seen/will see a MAJOR capacity decrease. As a frequent standby on LAX-IAD flights, I've noticed more and more 319s on the route recently. And they're often full. I know full planes don't equal profitable planes, but I'm not sure how I feel about this...

So where are the planes going? Notice very few A-320s. I guess most have been converted to Ted. Where are the 757s going? Denver?

Why is UA mainline cutting capacity at what should be a (somewhat) profitable hub with the international connections? Isn't this leaving an opening for major WN and B6 expansion??

They won't like the reduction of premium seats.

the reduction of seats that they can use minimiles to get into... maybe if ppl were paying for it, they would keep the capacity

And it comes as UA adds new routes that limit the amount of hub-through traffic. For example, IAD-TUS and IAD-ABQ now have non-stops.

Wow - they do not have flights to CLE, FLL, MCO or MIA anymore? Is this something that is recent or have these cities been off for a while? I just flew from CLE-IAD-FLL on UAX and then TED back in October...so no more than a year...

Ay news on DUB getting service from UA? From next summer they will be the only major US carrier not flying to Ireland and there will be still no flights to Washington, surely an easy seat filler for UA?

From DUB, UA gets quite a lot of feed from BMI into LHR.

Quoting Laxintl (Reply 25):
So while a 763 might fit such a route, only aircraft UA could use would be a 777 which would be too much capacity and too risky.

Exactly, why put a 777 on a route like that, when it can make considerable more $$ over the Atlantic or better still over the Pacific.

ABE, AMS, BGM, BRU, BTV, CDG, CHO, CLE, CRW, CUN, CVG, DAB, DFW, DTW, EZE, FLL, FRA, HPN, IND, LAS, MBJ, MCI, MCO, MDT, MEX, MIA, MSP, PDX, PHL, PIT, RIC, ROA, SAT, SCE, SJC, SJU, SMF, STL, YUL, YVR, and ZRH all saw no changes in service (either frequency or equipment), so I did not feel the need to include them.

I personally find the timings of the flights bizarre, unless United is picking up a second gate at West Palm Beach (which I can't help but doubt). Is United going to park a plane or something? Also, along the same vein, doesn't United handle that station themselves? If so, are they going to have to expand the workforce there, or just work them harder?

Not too bizarre... 3 flight a day.. 2 RON's arriving at 1934 and 2140 departing in the morning at 0730 and 0845 to IAD and ORD respectively.

Even if UA does not get a 2nd gate there is plenty of time to work one flight and tow it off/tow it back. Anyways did FLYi not have a gate at PBI in the same concourse as UA if I remember back from last year?
