Updated Biz Seats On Korean Air A330-300s

Tue Aug 08, 2006 8:34 am

Hello All,

I'm heading back down to Oz for work and was hoping to use SkyTeam this time. Looking at their seat plans they show 50" of pitch in Biz on the 747 out of ATL while on the A330-300 out of Seoul they show 41-42" of pitch which seems a bit tight for Biz class.

Are they still in the process of converting the biz cabin to the new sleeper seats or does the A330 get the older regional seats? Just wondering what's up with their fleet since SeatGuru has nothing.

The new business class product has only been rolled out on the 777-200ER's that fly between ICN and SEA, LAX, NYC and FRA. This new Business Class has a fully flate (but not horizontal) sleeper seat with a 60" pitch. The new first class product looks superb.

Have a look on their website for more details:

Thanks. The website didn't do me much good for telling me what planes had been upgraded though the new seats look good. I just found a fare on Malaysian for $2000 less so that might be the way to go.

for 2000 less on Malaysian, I'd go for it... personally I would rather fly Malasysian then Korean. Maybe by some stroke of luck you'll get upgraded to First class. Whcih looks great on Malaysian!

CZ now operate flat bed business on their A330's to Australia.
3pw to MEL, daily to SYD.

They are a SkyTeam affiliate, becoming a full member next year. Check their fares as well, they are pretty competitive.

Connections aren't too good, but CAN is a nice airport, or you may wish to spend time shopping in CAN, or go across to HKG, or have a look at the massive expansion of the Vegas of the East (Macau).

USA - Aust
11:50p LAX 5 6:20a+2 CAN CZ 328 Non-stop 772 15:30

7:05p CAN 7:00a+1 MEL 2 CZ 321 Non-stop 330 8:55
9:30p CAN 8:30a+1 SYD 1 CZ 325 Non-stop 330 9:00

connect:
9:00p CAN 7:50p LAX 5 CZ 327 Non-stop 772 13:50

return flight connections seem OK...

As for KE, you might want to look into their system of selling F-class seats as premium business class on routes where they don't sell First. For a nominal fee per sector, one can upgrade his ticket to be seated in the F-section. Tickets for seats in that section are booked in J-class. But that only goes for routes where they don't actually sell First.

MH, however, is definitely the better choice when it comes to inflight product, although you still have to get a bit lucky to hit a reconfigured aircraft, as there are quite some frames still flying around in the old configuration.

Interesting. I tried to check out F seats on the ATL-ICN-SYD flights and they said they don't offer it though the planes have it. I'll give them a call in the morning. But with $2000 less on Malaysian that will be hard to beat.

F-class seat and C-class service is called C plus in KE. I'm not 100% sure but ICN-ATL does not offer C plus while ICN-SYD offers C plus with 250 USD one way. If MH is $2000 cheaper, then MH will be a better choice, I think. Moreover, you'll have to stay one night near ICN on the way back (SYD->ATL).

MH sounds and looks like the way to go. Now to get it all approved.

While browsing flights on KE's website it shows F is available on the AT-ICN and ICN-SYD legs but then says it is unavailble. Weird.

Different client and we are buying the ticket this time instead of them. I'm pulling out the corporate travel policy and it says Biz across the ponds. For some weird reason everyone is $2000 to $5000 more than MH but I'm not one to argue with it.
