Does anyone know how the Southwest assigned seating trials are going?

Man I hope it went well. I was in one of those lines a few weeks ago and saw two passengers almost start trading punches as they argued who was 1st in line.

Gosh...I wish I knew what cities all this fisticuffs occur in...for a while I flew Southwest twice a week...every week, to several cities, and I never so much as saw a nasty look between passengers. Which city was this...or was it just a figment of your imagination.

SAN, where the testing is being done.

Odd...I guess I must have hit SAN on a "low fisticuff" day - as I haven't seen near fights in lines there either.

I wonder why people like to talk mess about WN's seating policy when I have personally seen some of these high and mighty Legacy pasengers act a fool in lines as well. O and dont like one of the first class passengers show up 10 minutes after their group was called and has to wait untill the other groups are done before he/she can boared, They act like they need depends.

It was San Diego, my home airport. There are seats lined up against the wall at several of the gates and there is always an argument between those sitting and those standing. The ones standing crowd into the space of those sitting claiming they are not really considered to be in line if thier butts are in a chair.

It's sort of crazy and wierd but true........ now you know.

What seems so stupid about this whole assigned seating test is that there is a big difference between allowing people to choose their own assigned seats, and assigning passengers their seats. Obviosuly people would rather have open seating than having the airline choose their seat assignment for them. Since I have heard that WN is assinging seats to the pax, I can't see how this test in SAN will hold much credibility.

Bingo UAL-Fan! Many airports that I fly with WN have these seats located where "A" line congregates. I cannot tell you how many times I have had encounters with these huffy "almost always overweight" folks that sit in these seats. Almost got beat up by a female dressed in all black with a real bad attitude in Albuquerque. You can guess her sexual preference. It is so funny to see everyone rush to the line when I just walk up and get in line. At first I hated this seating arrangement, now I love it. I did hear the assigned seating did not go over well at all. Why re-invent the wheel WN? Things are going great for you.

Once again, Southwest has made it VERY CLEAR that they are NOT testing the method by which seats would be assigned OR whether people LIKE IT. They are simply seeing how it affects their ability to tur the flights around quickly.

AGAIN, this is NOT a customer satisfaction experiment, it is an operational experiment.

FYI:

Southwest is NOT testing the "assigning" of seats, only how pax WITH assigned seats utilizing differing boarding methods affects boarding times. If / When WN changes to assigned seating the passenger will be able to choose their seat just as they do on any carrier. At the current time we do not have the technology to assign the seats so we are doing it by hand instead of having 137 pax crowded at the gate asking for this or that seat. This has been discussed in great detail before.

ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER THIS PATH.

Record Profits. Strong Load Factors. Strong Customer Satisfaction. Newest single type fleet in the sky.

Let's change something to see what can go wrong!

Sounds like something from a Marketing Department to me.

Keep me and my other WN devotees happy - serve us peanuts and LET US PICK OUR SEATS ONBOARD WHEN WE BOARD. We love A, B, and C! We just hate preboarders with small children who sit in the emergency exit rows -- at least the adults sit there and they put the kids all around them.

YOu know...I'm usually one of those lard asses that's sitting by the A line. Why? Because I figure that there are about 120 seats on the plane, and there's about 40 people in the A line. If I've got an A card, why bother even standing in a line? If every one of those 40 people took a window seat, I'd still have window seats to pick from. If they all took an aisle seat...I'd still have aisle seats to pick from. I just wait until the line is about gone, fold my paper, stand up, walk over, and hand the gate agent my A card. Then board. And I always end up getting the seat I wanted....one that was not occupied. I've never threatened, or been threatened, in my quest for a seat.

What does this person's sexual perference have to do with this? There are people who are mean and rude whether they are straight, bisexual, homosexual, asexual, transexual or anything else out there!

As far as my thoughts on the WN assigned seating, it almost seems like they want it to fail. Like it was said before the seating should be assigned but by the passenger online, etc. If WN chooses the seats for you there are going to be some unhappy campers.

Cheers,
John
