Eithad Looking At 787/A350 And 777F/A332F

Tue Aug 08, 2006 6:16 pm

From Flight International:

http://www.flightglobal.com/Articles...tions+for+new+widebody+types+.html

''Rapidly expanding Gulf carrier Etihad Airways expects to implement the next round of its fleet-acquisition plans by early next year as it evaluates orders for various widebody types including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.''

''Meanwhile, the airline's cargo operation accounts for a third of its business, and Boven says that the A330-200F and 777 Freighter are under evaluation for its dedicated freight arm Crystal Cargo.''

We have seen in the past that EY loves Airbus (388;332;345;346) and the only Boeing plane is the 773 and that plane was only ordered because Airbus wasn't able to deliver at an earlier stage. So my guess is if EY will keep it current direction they will order 359s and 351s so the 777 and the 787 are out of the game. As for the freighter order they will most definitely go 332 since this A/C build the backbone of their fleet.

I also think like UA933 , EY will go A350XWB , as QR and EK will do and possibly Kuwait Aw and Royal Jordanian , leaving only Saudia and El Al as 787 customers in this region + 787VIPs.

The A350 will be their selection.

Cargo will depend on how much lift they need, since a 777F will haul a good deal more then an A332F. It could even be a split order if EY wants flexable cargo capacity.

As for passenger traffic, the A358 would be a pretty big increase over the A332's capacity, so the 787-8 might have an edge there if EY doesn't feel traffic patterns warrant a large increase. However, the A350-900R and A350-1000 would be excellent replacement/expansion platforms for the A345 and A346, respectively and at that point, better to discount a bit if that is what it takes to load-up the A350-800.  Smile
