Thomsonfly Longhaul - Mood Lighting

Wed Aug 09, 2006 5:20 am

Its great another charter airline has gone to the 33/37 config. However..

Thomsonfly are planning to install moodlighting. I am presuming they are not going for the 777 interior so is it possible, or would it even be as good without the curves.

Or are they going to put the 777 interior in like First Choice.

Thanks

I think they're upgrading the cabins - they did it with the rest of the fleet. I've seen promo shots of the cabin and it looks way better than the garish terquoise seats on FCA. Personally I think that the TOM product is (will be) better than FCA (better service, newer planes) but unless they come up with a decent advertising campaign, they will lose out to them. (FCA are airing those commercials like mad on TV)

I wonder if 2 major airlines in the UK offering 33" as standard transatlantic will have an affect on BA? (then AA,DL,US,VS etc...!!)

Its just a shame that they dont do charter flights to the main US cities Sad

I dont know my experience of Thomsonfly especially cabin crew doesnt make me think this will be the case. Newer planes, not really, the three they are refurbishing are only a year newer than the majority of the First Choice 767's and especially as in a couple of years the B787 will be coming FCA's way. Thomsonfly wont be getting them if they order now until 2012 probably.

Thomsonfly are refurbishing 5 767 not 3. Four will have 283 seats with the new seat back and one will be 328 seats. The remaining three will be 328 with no seatback tv currently used on short haul.

So basically Thomsonfly are advertising a service that they cannot offer to "everyone" as the adverts put it.

I hope thats not true.

Also you say 5 aircraft but there arn't five long haul flights per day or even 4. As far as i can see there is one plane at MAN, one a LGW and the other between BHX, CWL and others.

One TOM B763 gets used for short-haul flights, so that should explain the one that isn't getting refurbed.

I am so glad that TOM are modernising their long-haul fleet, they are the best UK Charter Company, and have more potential than ever at the moment.

As for the crew, yes some of them are a bit stuck up, but I've flown on-board Britannia/Thomsonfly flights with crews from MAN, CWL, BRS, and LTN, and I can honestly say they've all been amazing, except for the miserable MAN bunch (but I wouldnt be too happy having to coach to CWL to do a Saturday night PMI flight on a B762!).

The mood lighting, I've always found as a great idea, make it really comfortable and gives that extra touch when flying, so I'm glad they're introducing this too.

I'm actually flying long-haul with TOM next year (haven't decided exactly where to yet, either CUN, MBJ, MLE, or SSA.

I hope it all works out for them... oh... and I'm sure we can rest assured they'll advertise it so much we'll actually be sick to death of the idea! They're gonna have to find an advert better than the FCA one though, which is gonna be a bit of a task cause I think the FCA ones are brilliant!

So it would seem they don't! Sorry when ya book online with Thomson it doesnt tell you your airline, I just assumed it was TOM, when actually it's MYT - so there's the Maldives out the window!

I'll probably end up in CUN anyway!

Good evening.

Regarding the 5th 763 with all economy seating and seatback TV.

I know in a recent Crew communication that it said this aircraft will be 328. I think this was a misprint. I may be wrong, but I think it will be 296. I just think the company meant to say that an all economy aircraft will be refitted, as we do offer longhaul without premium cabins. The brochure does say that all longhaul will be to the new 33" standards.

Cape Verde, I believe, will be a 757.

I'll try and find out.

The 5th 763 (all economy) is due to be refurbished next November (2007) and Cape Verde starts May (2007), so that must mean all longhaul is premium for summer 2007.

Also remember that Britta(sorry thomsonfly) operate for P and O cruises and Fred Olsen and I am sure that both of them had an influence in getting the new config

Are the new cabins coming into service before next summer? Seeing as a lot of long haul flights take place in the winter to places like the Caribbean, isn't this a bit late? (apart from Florida which many tourists visit in the Summer - dont know why ?!)

However, a lot of the long-haul winter flights are operated on the B762's, especially the Caribbean 'cruise-connectors', but Im sure they do a lot of lying around during the winter so there'll be plenty time to build in the new cabins, maybe they'll do it bit by bit insted of all at once?

Well i would have thought that the B762 will cover the long haul B763 during the winter whilst they are away for refurbishment. However i wouldnt say they will be here any earlier otherwise there would be booking issues.
