Honda Officially Sets Up At GSO

Honda establishes jet subsidiary in Greensboro
The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area - 11:18 AM EDT Tuesday

Honda Motor Co., which announced in late July that it would begin accepting sales orders in the fall for its lightweight HondaJet, said in a statement Tuesday that it has established the subsidiary to run that process in Greensboro.

Honda Aircraft Co. will be responsible for the further development, sales promotion and production of the HondaJet, Honda said in a statement.

Honda Aircraft will be based in a facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport, where the prototype HondaJet was assembled and test flights have been carried out for more than three years.

Michimasa Fujino, the chief engineer who has led development of the HondaJet so far, will be the president of Honda Aircraft, which will start full operations in October, Honda said.

Honda's goal is to deliver the first mass production of the jets in 2010. The Greensboro-based subsidiary will also manage Honda's new alliance with Piper Aircraft Inc., which will collaborate with Honda on sales and service.

The exact number of employees that would be needed for the operation was not disclosed.

In a phone interview with The Business Journal, Henry Isaacson, the chairmain of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, said he had not heard definitive word about the facility from Honda, but said that, if Greensboro indeed had been selected, "we'd be delighted."

That's cool. I've seen it a few times while flying from GSO. Interesting that the callsign is just the tail number.

FedEx and Honda.. As well as all the heavies in for maintenance.. pretty cool..

Has any word been said of whether FedEx would bring the 380 into GSO or would it just be the 727/300/310/Caravan?
Aiming High and going far..
