That's exactly what I was thinking. I wonder how they planned to overcame all the obesity?

Anyone else notice that, about 42 seconds into the video, it looks like some woman in a silver smock with her back to us is scratching her butt? Look in the lower-left hand quadrant of the picture...TOO funny.

I saw this vid before and it appears to be made in the 1960s and shows what they think travel will be like by 1975.

The reason I think this is because in the 1960s everyone seemed to think that supersonic travel was going to be commonplace by the 1970s. However, by 1975 the costly development led Boeing and Lockheed to abandon their SST projects and the oil crisis beginning in 1973 was the final nail in Supersonic air travel for the masses.

Also the livery of the Braniff supersonic in this commercial is their 1965 livery with the white tail with BI in bold black letters, rather than their 1971. So my guess is that this commerical was made in the mid-1960s judging by the clothing/hair/makeup styles and accompanying music. By 1975 this would have seemed all a bit dated.

A question for the pilots: Was the guy with 7 stripes on his sleeve the pilot or co-pilot?

The gal scratching her bum was far more impressive that the folks wearing helmets designed by Dork - I think there was a bit of creative fun with that one.

Sad that Braniff went under - they would have been interesting to watch these days.

Yeah, I have this DVD in my collection and if you are not a serious collector of all things Braniff like I am, or a collector or retro commercials, it is really not worth the $30.00 price tag. The production values as you all may have glimpsed from this clip are horrible at best.

Too be fair most futurist get it wrong, I recall when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, I was promised flying cars....where is my flying car? Oh wait, there it is....

Indeed this was a 60s era advert. By the early 70s Braniff was moving from the Girard (Jellybeans) to the 'Flying Colors' livery.

Yea, boy were they sure wrong....
Didn't they realize that travel in the 21st century would involve long security lines, crowded flights, taking your shoes & belts off to go thru security, no meal service, plastic silverware, no pillows, no blankets, peanuts if you are lucky, food not worthy of fast food for purchase, poor service......

The way the seats move around and rotate reminds me of a ride at Disneyland. I just can't remember which one it is.

What about the guy flying along side of the plane wearing the jetpack using a key to lock the door?  rotfl

Then there is someone in her hooded sweatsuit dropping off her laundry.  Big grin

I saw a button for food but I didn't see one for drinks.  Confused

Too bad they couldn't predict the TSA.

Someone asked if the pilot with the seven stripes is a captain of a first officer - He is the captain AND the first officer.  Smile

I noticed that too.

Did anyone see the electric chair wrist cuffs being applied on that woman, what the hell was that about?

Excellent observations!!!

Their color scheme is definitely pastels rather than the two-tone flying colors they were using in 1975. Plus youre right by 1975, everyone knew SST travel was dead on a large scale

Just imagine. In a parallel universe, this really did take place, and by 1975 they were serving free food and beverages even in Coach.

Heck, come to think of it, even in our universe, domestic airlines were serving free food and beverages in Coach... in "futuristic" 1975.

Sure beats 2006.

Well, one sliver of it came true- Braniff was the only US carrier ever to operate Concorde in scheduled passenger service.

Geez - if the people who dreamed up that clip could have actually seen what flying is like in 2006, they'd probably be extremely disappointed, especially if you threw them on a Ryanair flight! I feel like we have failed as a society for not living up the expectations of what the future should be like. Hell, we are not even close.

But you guys are right, that clip is bizarre. There is no interpersonal contact in that sterile world. Too weird for me... then again, we have nutjobs in our world that would like nothing more than to blow up multiple planes simultaneously, and kill hundreds of innocent people. Like I said, maybe we have failed....
None shall pass!!!!
