FedEx Font Change..

Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:42 pm

Anyone else notice that below the FedEx where "Express," "Ground," "Custom Critical," etc., has changed font from a Serif font to a Sans Serif font.

Also on the airplanes, below FedEx in the old style it said Federal Express, now on the aircraft it says "Express."

Just wanted to see if anyone else noticed. It's also being changed on the trailers and trucks.

A few months ago, one of the photographers captured N803FD, an A310-300F that had just come out of paint with the new style font. While placing just Express on the airplane versus Federal Express, there have been planes in the past, MD-11s for the most part, that had both the full Federal Express and the Express only painted as the subtitles before.

Trucks and trailers have all sorts of names on the bottom, depending on the services that it provides.

The new FedEx font used on the planes -- does anyone know what that exact font is? Can you get it in MS Word?

It is a custom font.
Here is a article on the designer of the fedex logo
and implementing it..

Looks much more modern, good for their image.
FedEx's corporate image and marketing history is interesting in itself  Smile

I do believe it's a custom design, although Futura Bold (using the real bold weight and not the MS-version) will be somewhat close.

The new-style "Express" is Helvetica Neue 45 (or 35).

IIRC, FedEx changed their name from Federal Express to FedEx. Along with this changes, FedEx changed its Federal Express service to FedEx Express, along with the addition of other services such as FedEx ground, FedEx freight, etc.

Correct me if I am wrong. there's a historical background on fedex's website, but it's a bit confusing, and I don't have time to read it through.

here's the link if anyone care to read:
