What A Mad Day At Work!

Fri Aug 11, 2006 2:01 am

Hi All

Well have just got home from a very hectic shift started at 5 this morning and didnt finish till 4 this afternoon, LGW was hectic from 4 this morning, no self service, no fast bag drop everything was on normal check in.

Most passengers have been fine as its not the airlines fault, although I did have a few a***hole passengers!!!! Please if anyone is travelling in the next few days please be nice to us, we are just as frustrated with this as you are. We will try our best to help you!!!!

I managed to keep smiling throughout most of the day, and pax were coming in for later flights all prepared which was cool.

All in all BA at LGW managed to keep most flights operating as you can imagine we had a few canellations.

The only critisism I have of GAL is that they should have stopped pax that were not travelling from entering the terminal as at one point you could not move!!!

Any other staff members working today want to share their thoughts??

Thank you to the Brits for uncovering the plot in the first place! Maybe Scotland Yard should come over and give the FBI & CIA some tips.

There is true classic irony in that statement because the FBI and CIA both work better and more effectively with Scotland Yard that they do with each other.

Wow hats off......I wouldn;t wan't to be a BA agent at LHR today or a passenger stuck in LHR.

Unless you have to have to have to fly today, just call BA or your airline and get rebooked for a later day

Well, the FBI & CIA seem to have the classic "my dick's bigger than yours" syndrome.... I think both respect Scotland Yard... probably because of the dialect... British dialects, save Cockney, sound "smarter" to American ears...  Wink

I have had the same day at LTN..

I walked in at 0330 and left at 1630.., Ill be honest, its not nice to work with..

Its extremely hard to check-in with the airport being in a critical phase.. but as your said LGWspeedbird, Passengers were fantastic about it, they understood, Did not moan and done as they was told...

Flights on our side either Cancelled or delayed up to 3 hours... After a whole day of searching bags and getting people where they need to be and not sitting down for 8 hours.... I look forward to doing the same tomorrow and maybe over the next few days

Well in this case its simple, you either check it in or dont fly... I had 1 or 2 today who thought they could tell us what to do because they turned up in a tie and suit.. but they never win :P

That ALWAYS happens to me, whenever I cover someone in work it turns out to be mayhem!

Anyway... well done to all you airport staff who are keeping things going, and good luck for the rest of the weekend  Smile

Haha.. We had 1 guy today, We was boarding a flight which was 2 hours late.. he came up to us and asked if we had boarded everyone, I said that I was not allowed to give out that information then i asked if he was on the flight, he said:

"yes I am, but im not getting on if you are down, ill go for another shop"
me: "Sir we need to get this flight boarded as quickly as we can so now your at the boarding gate please board the plane...
Him: "no Ill come back"
Me:" Sir we need to insure that this Aircraft gets off the ground asap, so if Passengers are here we must board them"
Him: " well im not getting on if i have to wait for people!"
Me: Well all the passenger on board will have to wait for you if you dont get back to the gate in time, you will need to board now"

He gave in :P,

Too often we think that the crews working on the plane have the hardest job. Takes days like this to get us to remember that check-in and gate staff have a huge task getting the right people on the right planes at the right time. Thanks for the efforts - it's a job I would not like to face during this period.

I'm glad to see that, that little action does put pasengers at ease when they see the staff happy.

It'll be tough though, air travel is stressful enough without the added pressures.
