Who Owns Who

Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:59 am

There has been some mergers that have occurred in the 21th century. Why don't the airline owners of the acquired airline repaint their planes in the livery of their own? For example why doesn't LH repaint the LX fleet in their own livery since they are the owners? Why don't they operate under a single airline name?

Now are these mergers correct or wrong:

LH owns LX

CX owns KA

AF owns KL

9W owns S2

Are there any other mergers that have occurred beside these I mentioned above in the recent years of 2000-2006?

Thanks for your replies.

Quoting American777 (Thread starter):
9W owns S2

That one failed to go through at this point in time. As an aside 9W & QF confirmed their codeshare yesterday.

Technically, Lufthansa owns Air Trust which in turn owns Swiss. Sorry to nitpick.

They won't repaint the aircraft for the time being to keep the brand going. The two frequent flyer programs were merged - more like Miles & More swallowed Swiss Travel Club. However, Swiss is a strong brand, and, while they are now a subsidiary of Lufthansa, rebranding Swiss might not go down too well with the Swiss, especially in Suisse Romande. I believe part of the deal was to maintain seperate brands even after they merge the two entities beyond the phase in which Air Trust owns Swiss.
