Where Next For The Virgin Empire!

Fri Aug 11, 2006 3:03 pm

With the Virgin name reaching just about all four corners of the globe with Virgin Atlantic, Blue, Express & now America, where next will Mr Branson venture into?

South America?, India/China?

I would personally like to see a reach into Eastern Europe.

Any thoughts, idea's?

Virgin Galactic... The world is not enough.

Speaking about Europe, I'm not sure if there will be a new Virgin airline, once Virgin Express and SN are fully combined and operate under one brand only.

Branson was in India last year seeking to set up an airline there. Government of India restricts foreign direct investment to 26%. Not to mention, there are already several players waiting in the wings to start an airline there. This is in addition to the five airlines that have recently started. Also, India seriously lacks the infrastructure for growth in its aviation sector. The airports and airspace system is facing saturation.

Restrictions are too tough for a foreign company to start an airline in China. Anyhow, Virgin Group has its hands full with getting Virgin America going. They have a large amount of capital tied up in a venture that is facing some serious opposition.

Virgin Galactic seems poised for some good business at the end of the decade. I still think it will only be attainable to the millionaire club for the near future.

There were some rumours of something going on in Canada. I haven't heard South America and Virgin Group in the same sentence. Maybe someone else can elaborate on that.

Virgin Atlantic launched its own credit card last month. With the will it, wont it situation with Virgin America I doubt that we will see any other new enterprises for a little while. Even the Virgin froup has finite management resources.
