New Airline Restrictions May Be Here To Stay

Sat Aug 12, 2006 2:35 am

"Air travelers might have to get used to stuffing lipstick and lotion into their luggage rather than carry it with them in the wake of a plot to destroy airliners with liquid-based explosives, security experts say.

The Transportation Security Administration issued new rules banning nearly all liquids, including beverages, lotions and hair gels, from being taken on planes after British authorities arrested at least 24 suspects in the plot.

British airlines went even further, banning all carry-on luggage except for keys, wallets, glasses and other essentials. Medications and baby formula are being allowed... "

I've heard several news reports saying that bans may be relaxed within a few days. One report cited a "senior TSA official" at ORD. The key is when the British feel that they have substantially all of the suspects involved in custody.

I literally read the exact opposite earlier today. Some news article I read had a quote from Chertoff saying how the restrictions were likely to be relaxed over the next few days - not totally removed, but most definitely relaxed.

I work for TSA at PHL and saw reports today that said the new restrictions would be relaxed within the next 2 weeks. I was off today, but spoke to a co- worker who said that the assistant FSD at PHL said this morning that " nothing would be relaxed anytime soon." That is a direct quote and I trust my friend and know that he wouldn't sensationalize or make anything up. I'm off until monday and will find out more then. Anything that I do find out that can be posted on here, will be. I will keep you all up to date however I can.

Nothing would make this airline employee happier than to have all carry-on bags banned. Period. No exceptions except for purses, computers, food purchased within the secured areas of and airport and baby or other health related supplies.

If that day ever comes, it will surpass the joy i felt when smoking was banned inflight.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.
