It is always the airline's perogative to change your seat assignment, even up to boarding time. My best advice to you would be to get to the airport as early as you can. If lucky, you may be able to gain an even better seat than previously assigned as airlines continuously hold seats up at check-in. Good luck!

Its completely impossible to reserve a seat on any US airline more than 30 days in advance, if I'm not mistaken.

One issue here might be that the OP is not an elite member on US and therefore could be changed with less issues to the airline since sadly in today's airline environment those passengers are less of a concern.
