ANA 747-400 Fleet Reduction

Sat Aug 12, 2006 11:42 am

Clearly with many recent -381ER deliveries NH is gradually replacing their 744 fleet. I'm curious whether anyone has some idea as to the schedule of fleet replacement.

It appears two of their longhaul birds delivered in the last ten years have already left the fleet. I was looking through the July issue of AIRLINE magazine (a fantastic monthly publication here in Japan) and noticed that their non-744D registration list was missing the aforementioned 1998/99 deliveries.

Per the magazine, the current 10-strong 747-481 fleet is as follows:

JA8094, JA8095, JA8096, JA8097, JA8098, JA8958, JA8962, JA403A, JA404A and JA405A.

Further does anyone know the specific seat configurations correspond with each tail number?? Current configurations include 4-class (F, new club ANA, premium Y, Y) w/287 seats, 4-class w/323 seats and 3-class (F, old club ANA, Y) w/338 seats.

Also what is going to happen to all the -481Ds now that Itami airport has banned four engine aircraft?

Many thanks.

Stick them all on HND-CTS? Perhaps the -481Ds can be used on shorter international routes, NRT/KIX/NGO-ICN perhaps?

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Why has Itami Airport banned four-engined aircraft? Too much noise? I thought 747 Domestics were an absolute necessity to be able to haul all those people...

I flew from Itami some years ago and it was packed to the rafters... but very organised and peaceful, really... Japan was a great experience  thumbsup

Yes, it's because of noise.

Remember, (some of?) ANAs' 773As carry around 550+ pax in an all economy config, not that far away from the capacity of the 744D.
IIRC, the problem in Japan has been the ability to add more flights on a route due to capacity/runway limitations at the different airports.

Two of the ex ANA - B747-481s are going to Air Atlanta Icelandic from Late 2006 to operate for Excel Airways' Travel City Direct flights from LGW/MAN to SFB for Summer 2007.

I thought NH had already retired all their -SR and -D 747s in favor of 773As?

They still operate the 744D, all the Classics have left though.

Well noise is part of it, but not the only reason. The ban on Jumbo at ITM was also decided to boost domestic traffic at KIX which is loosing money every years.

To go back on the subject, I'm sure that JA403A, JA404A and JA405A are configured in the old 3 class 338 seats. I used to fly on them before the new C and F products were introduced on CDG-NRT.

On a side note, JA401A and JA402A are -481D converted from normal -481.

JA8962 was the Pokemon jet in 4-class w/323 seats last time I flew it in May, but it lost its pokemon livery during maitenance few days after the flight according to one NH's FA. I don't know if configuration has been changed or not at the same time.

Regards,

JumboForever

Too bad. I will miss those NH744 pics on here @ airliners.net. God bless them where ever they go.
