How Is SQ Doing On SIN-PVG

Sat Aug 12, 2006 2:53 pm

i've been travelling with SQ on this route for years. My impression of the load varies on the route. sometimes they are packed while sometimes the load is petty bad in both J and Y. they seem to have increased flights on the route from daily to 5 time daily in half a decade. so, how well exactly r they doing?

Make that four times daily, and they are doing very well, seeing as how they will be adding three additional weekly frequencies at the onset of the winter schedule. Irrespectably of the loads on the SIN PVG route, SQ seems to be netting quite some premium fares, and in most markets the airline hardly offers any discount over the official IATA published fares.

A little unbelievable that SQ is planning a 5th daily flight next year. There must be huge and increasing demand on this routes. Many corporations have moved their Asia Pacific headquarters from Singapore to Shanghai, or at least there would be a Greater China headquarter which would have to communicate with Singapore frequently. So I would say these flights will be full of business travelers who care more about frequency. Besides I have always thought that SQ would open a PVG-US route eventually.

Any news on Shanghai Airlines opening this route?

A huge potential, how about a SIN-PVG-LAX flight, with LAX-PVG as red eye, no one else has offered this so far and SQ can make a killing.

Would SQ route some of their North America services (if they were to start new ones to ORD or YYZ) via PVG? Would SQ have fifth freedom rights?

Amazing, in the early 90s they had once daily SIN-SHA-PEK, later dedicated daily SIN-SHA, soon there'll be 5 dailies.

Incredible, in the early 90s SQ had once daily SIN-SHA-PEK, even 2-3 years ago it was 3 daily to PVG, I've heard soon PVG will be slot constrained too, T2 might be filled up very quickly after completion..

PVG will be a Star hub when T2 completed. All Star carriers will be moved under one roof. That is 12 Star members including FM and CA, or 13 if you count TK.

SQ must have seen the potential opportunities to expand from there as they do from ICN. How is ICN and beyond doing for SQ?
