Asiana Takes Off Without Passanger Crew

Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:15 pm

You all have to excuse me if this has been posted before..........

http://www.dagbladet.no/dinside/2006/08/12/473685.html

Asiana , Koreas biggest airline forgot the cabin crew

The captain found out when he asked for a coffe

A missunderstanding between the pilots and the tower is supposed to explain it.......  Smile

The incident is now being investigated by the airline authorities in the country.

The plane had been flying for 30 minutes when the pilots found out and returned to the airport to pick up the rest of the crew.

The flight was an emty flight.

Maybe a ground handling agent closed the door from the outside like they do at some airports?

This last sentence explains alot.....it was empty, a ferry flight. They probably didn't know there was cabin crew riding with them. The article doesn't doesn't say WHO was on, someone else may have closed the doors. People get left behind alot.....even crew.

There's an urban legend that a passenger plane, a domestic US 727 or so, departed once without cabin crew, and the pilots only found out midflight after passengers knocked on the door (obviously pre September 11) to enquire when they'd get drinks or a meal service. Makes you wonder if flight attendants would be missed anyway (on normal flights) since cutting back of service. duck

Sorry I don't speak the language the article is written on.

Where was this at?

What kind of aircraft was it?

Did they depart from a gate?

What kind of coffee did the pilot asked for?

Who closes the doors is determined by that paticular airlines policy. Some the f/a's do it, some the gate agents, and some the rampies do it (AC).

But if it was an empty ferry flight I guess it is not that bad, only that there were no confirmation that the doors were armed unless a cockpit crew member did it assuming he didnt have to carry a FA crew with him.

At first I thought there were passengers on board, that rather bothered me.
There is something special about planes....

The issue is shouldn't the pilots have known there were supposed to be crew - you know for the total on board figure????

At least it was a positioning flight  Smile

G´day

Closing the door is one thing but arming the slides is another. As to whether the slides are armed or not to my knowledge is visible in the cockpit and verifying the slides are armed prior to departure surely is part of the checklist.

Thus the flight crew must have armed the slides themselves and thus realized here was no cabin crew, unless they overlooked that item on the checklist.

Cheers
