WTF Is Going On At LHR?

Sun Aug 13, 2006 7:39 am

BA cancelling flights? Massive backlog? What is going on? How does banning carryons lead to flight cancellations?

Will LHR be allowed to ignore Cranford to clear the backlog?

Due to the security procedures, its taking longer and longer for passengers to go thru security, this means alot of pax aint getting to there flights, casuing planes to get delayed, even a little delay casues problems for routes all day. And long haul just gets mucked up totally. Better to canx then have the system complety out of whack, planes in the wrong place, crew out of hours, no relife etc etc etc
Where does the time go???

It's prolly about longer lines at security. For example, here in COS the last two days the early mroning departure to ATL was 3 hours late on thurs and fri. Not sure exactly why, weather was fine.....it's probably just takin a bit longer for passenger to get through

Excellent article in the BBC and very, very true. If air traonsport does not reutrn to "normal" then the terrorists have won. We saw this disruption after 9/11 after their mass murder, and things sorted out. They will again, and hopefully sooner rather then later.

Personally I would have though it was fairly obvious what the problems are. You only have to watch the news or read a newspaper.

It isn't just a simple case of no carry-on, it's all the additional screening that's being done. On the news last night they said that for flights to the US, for example, pax are being screened three times (before they get to check-in, "normal" screening, then again at the gate).

The situation will slowly sort itself out as people start arriving much earlier for their flights and more prepared than they have been for the last few days.
