No Air Canada On Travelocity?

Sun Aug 13, 2006 8:25 am

Just did a yyc-yyz search on Travelocity Canada, and not a single result comes up from Air Canada. Not that there are others offering many lower than AC rates, the page is barely full, but not a single entry from AC. Did Sabre sever ties with AC?

Quoting ETStar (Thread starter):
Did Sabre sever ties with AC?

Yes, there was an announcement to all participating travel agencies back in May where they openly stated that relations had been disrupted by some action (unspecified) that Air Canada had unilaterally taken to the detriment of the travel industry.
My guess is that AC began implementing web fares way below those available to us, travel agents, and thus rendering Sabre and GDS as a whole uncompetitive on most routes. This is most unfair and goes against the principles of business parternship.

As a retaliatory measure, Air Canada is never shown as a first travel option when requesting a route display between two points and AC options are only displayed if specifically detailed as the only-choice carrier. Sabre refuses to show (and therefore, it is impossible to book) any First or Business class inventory available on any AC route anywhere in the world.

Since Travelocity is a subsidiary of Sabre's, I guess this is the answer to your question.

AC view on this is interesting. They have made enhancements to their Tango fare product line that allow a la carte options that cannot be exercised by consumers on sites other than the AC website. Therefore they decided to pull the fare type from all GDS systems. In retaliation,Sabre chose to remove AC flights from being booked hoping that would force AC to reverse it's position. Sabre and other GDS providers are trying to protect themselves in case other airlines try the same thing. It's a two edged sword in that it forces consumers to go directly to the airline's website thereby hurting companies like Travelocity. My instinct is to never buy any airline ticket from Travelocity or any other third-party website, rather go to the airline's website that you wish to travel on. It's especially beneficial when things go wrong.

What are the dates you're looking for? I just tried it and it gave me some options with AC.

I use travelocity all the time for short-notice bookings with AC. Has always worked for me.

I had done the flexible date search to only find Westjet tickets ... but entering specific dates now shows some AC. However, it does not show the fare AC charges until the last step, which gives AC a disadvantage when comparing by price as soon as they search results are displayed.
