Plane Crashes In Italy.

Mon Aug 14, 2006 12:59 pm

Yesterday in Italy on the 13th of August a algerian cargo C-130 Crashed, in Piacenza killing all 3 Pilots on board. The plane was heading from Algeria to Frankfurt, Germany.

Shortly before the crash the pilot told MXP's ATC he lost engine power, but he did a great job avoiding any houses, and then crashed in a field. The aircraft was fully destroyed on impact. Nobody on the ground was killed. A eye witness reported seeing fire from the plane shortly before impact.

Heres from Italy's news paper corriere del la sera. Sorry only in italian.

May the pilots RIP  Sad

They did a great job not killing anyone on the ground.

Cheers Leo

Which would mean there is no fire.

Anyway, very sad and if they did avoid homes etc then a great job.

Well, you always have to take carefully those "pilot-hero" statements from the news... the wreck is scattered over an area of several miles, and there is a big crater on the main impact site, looks like the airplane was falling apart before impact and then crashed out of control. It is more likely that those poor souls onboard had no chance of directing the flight anywhere in its final moments...  Sad

agreed. Probably engine exploded, took the wing with it.

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

May they RIP  Sad
I ask myself what could realy happened cos I think those Hercules are real workhorses and very robust so what could a plane like that take out of the air? Engine explosion & ripp off the wing sounds for me unlikely but I could be wrong!
That Aircraft is a like a flying tank! There must be a chain of incidents before taking the Hercules down!

Oh that's very sad! Just a couple of weeks ago I took some photos of this nice aircraft. It was very interesting to see. They parked right next to me while I was waiting for my TAM A330 coming in behind. I was impressed by this one as I have never seen one in real. My thoughts to the families who lost their beloved members.

Very sad. Not of fan of C130's myself. I wonder if they were navigating with a range rover again???

No offense, but how do you come to that conclusion from this:

Regardless, my prayers are with the families of these airmen.

Italian media reported that the black boxes are in a good condition and will soon explain what caused the crash.
May the pilots R.I.P.
