DL 764s Across The Pond

Tue Aug 15, 2006 7:23 am

Ok folks before you start flaming me I know the topic of the 764 conversions and routes has been beaten to death. I had one question though I don't remember being touched upon.

I'm looking at various flights to Manchester in the next month and one of them (at a substantial discount) goes ATL-JFK-MAN with the all-coach service across the Pond. Since I'm a Gold Medallion I am able to pick one of the original F seats in the front cabin. Now I know they say it is an all coach config but since the folks in that front cabin will have purchased higher price tickets or have Medallion status I was wondering if they take a little bit better care of you up there. I'm not asking for BizElite quality but perhaps something comparable to domestic First with a somewhat decent meal and drinks.

Any insight on that or should we pony up the additional dough and take the BizElite nonstop out of ATL?

I dont think the service differs at all from the normal coach. All you get is the seat. in my opinion its not that bad of a deal. of course try and get 7E or 7F if they dont have it blocked. You get about a foot of extra legroom *and* (I confirmed this last night ATL-SFO) there is a secret lever in the arm rest that houses the tray table. If you look to the back of the compartment there is a small black lever. if you pull this up while pushing the normal seat recline button, the seat can recline to nearly flat. try it out!

I always get the seat on transcons but I think they block it out for trips across the Pond. Good tip on the hidden handle. I never knew that one though I figured there had to be a way to make that thing recline further.

As a Silver Medallion, I too was able to pick "First" seats, and I too picked 7F also finding the secret lever on a trip from ATL-LAX. Hopefully the 764's will be able to to be reconfiged soon to proper BizElite travel. The only problem I have wit the 764 is its lack of itch both in the Y and J classes. I think CO did a better job of configing their 764 and I wish more airlines ordered them than just DL and CO.

Cheers from BDL (were every 767 variant has landed)  wave

I'm doing the JFK-MAN flight at the end of this month on the 767-400. My first time flying on the 400 over the pond but flown on them all over the west coast. I'm flying in seat 6A. As for seats 7E, F over the pond, I figured they're usually reserved for the crew members, but then again, the flight is only 7 hours from JFK, so no need for an extra pilot, but still might be for the f/a's. I booked my ticket 4 months ago and seats 7E,F were unavailable, so I assume they're really hard to get flying over the pond as it's recline is similar to "BizE."

Since I'm Gold Medallion, I expect to be treated well, hopefully the same that they treat if it was domestic first class, complimentary booze and headseats, as well as pre-flight beverages.

And as what DeltaGator put out, JFK-MAN was extremely cheaper then flying from ATL-MAN.

You bought a coach class ticket and will get all the benefits of coach class. You most likely will not get complimentary ooze, headsets or pre-flight beverages.

But a nice seat at least.

There shouldn't be a crew rest going over or coming back. Our trips are 6:55 going to MAN and 7:45 going back to JFK. No crew rest allocated for us. We get them at 8 hours or more.

Have a great trip, regardless. Should be a smooth ride (make a trip report so we can all benefit).

I have done this trip JFK-MAN on the 764 and there is no difference in service. All you have is a better seat and a personal TV with many channels of entertainment as opposed to the ceiling mounted cabin monitors.

cheers

Do they serve a coach meal over the pond in both classes?

Well, hopefully I'll be allowed my camera and laptop on board the flight when I head back to JFK, otherwise, I'll probably be writing a trip report for y'all.

As others have stated, the DL 764 flights are strictly and only sold as "Y" so there are no "two" classes. Just a "better" seat in rows 1-7 and the same exact service both in food, service, everyone pays for alcohol no matter your status or class in the frequent flyer system. These are "Y" only, no difference! The aircraft plan to be reconfigured in Biz Elite after the summer season so then J will be available on these birds, until then if you require better service you'll have to pay for Biz Elite service outta ATL.

Well, you (and all 280 other of your fellow passengers) do get one free alcoholic beverage with the main meal service. And since those sitting up in the domestic F cabin will tend to be Medallions, they could certainly use some of their Medallion drink coupons for free alcohol as well  Smile
All kidding aside, yes, you're right, it's all the same standard Y service across the board except for the seat and the PTVs in the first 7 rows.

I haven't seen those coupons in years. I should probably dig through my statements more often.

I believe those were included in the Medallion credentials packet you received.

I don't remember them being in there at all the past couple of years. Oh well. $5 a couple of times during the flight wouldn't kill me.
