Faster Boarding With New Carry-on Restrictions

Tue Aug 15, 2006 10:27 am

Looks like the quick turns and boarding times on narrow body aircraft have been going alot faster with less carry ons due to the restrictions.

I was on a full 757 that boarded in about 20 minutes and there were 4 overhead bins that were completely empty.

Thats probably the only positive outcome out of this whole fiasco.

Granted, but i wonder how much longer it took them to load the bags in the hold. And how much less cargo can the airlines carry with extra passenger bags being taken?

True, and in addition I noticed security lines were moving much faster than usual this past weekend as people didn't have rollaways to be scanned.

Of course, the baggage handling system seemed pretty overloaded, and AA lost my bag. First time ever for me having a bag lost  Sad

The plane should be boarded a lot faster. And if you fly less than 500 miles, you should have checkin with luggage bring it onboard. I hate to wait at least 45 mins before takooff. The hole procedure can take 2 hours. What a waist of time

If I have to go <500 miles, I'm driving my car. The long lines, frustrations, etc. are too much. In fact, I'm considering driving my auto for my next SFO-PDX trip too. I hear the view from the ground is fantastic!

That's probably an overreaction. I flew on Friday and it was the most painless flight I've had in a long time.

Did it last month ... took a day and a half because of road-works and other slow-downs.

AirTran is saying that on average, they've shaved 4 minutes off of the boarding process due to less carry-ons.

Best thing that has happened. Boarded a B777 from ORD, almost full in a total of 17 minutes and everybody off at LHR in 7 minutes and that included the pax needing a wheelchair. Just wish it would stay that way!!
