Mysterious Skywest Flights To COS?

Tue Aug 15, 2006 2:04 pm

This is a somewhat limited topic, but maybe those in the know can tell me what's up.

I was visiting Colorado Springs last week. One of the local cable channels shows weather and traffic, and periodically shows incoming flight schedules (what's delayed, on time, etc.) to COS. Apart from the usual, there were listings for arrivals from Palm Springs and Eugene from Skywest! There was one other unusual origination but I can't recall what it was.

No Skywest route map indicates such service, and I can't find it on any trip planner I can access online. I'm aware that COS has a maintenance center for Skywest, so I'm guessing that Skywest is bringing in planes from these unusual locations for some sort of maintenance. But why would they be listed on an airline arrivals service on TV? If that is the case, were they actually carrying any passengers? Are they always from these locations, or do they vary?

Appreciate your answers!

They were ferry flights for some reason or another. They showed up on the TV station becuase they were filtered that way—much like how flightaware does it's thing.

No. Most likely essential flightcrew only.

No. They happen as they are warranted, and not just to COS.

My Skyguide shows them as regularly scheduled 1-stops through DEN. So simply routings of PSP-DEN-COS or EUG-DEN-COS.

Silly me! Since I no longer work the customer service side of things, I no longer think about those situations anymore.  Wink

Understandable. I've probably looked up those flights myself before too but still had to go to the schedule to verify they were regular passenger flights and not ferrys.

I just flew DL/OO 3894 today on the COS-SLC segment, which continued on to MRY. My inbound was DL/OO 4068, EUG-SLC-COS. The other SLC-COS flight originates in PSP.

That all makes sense. Yes, MRY was the third location I was trying to think of.
Now, I didn't see that a flight from SLC that had the same times or flight numbers, but they weren't on the screen that long. Also, why only Skywest flights? Don't any other airlines indicate through service from their respective hubs? I didn't see any.
