I thought flying 5.5 hrs on AQ's-700 to SAN was long enough (2,612 miles). Wow!  Smile  Smile

Isn't there an airline in Panama that really puts some big numbers up on the scoreboard - like an eight hour sector from Panama City to Buenos Aires, or something along those lines?

Air Pacific may need a note to dispel that claim then! But, they do operate theirs all year long...

CO's IAH-ANC 737-800/W runs 3261sm, beating NAN-HNL 3170sm...6:55 routinely...

However, I think Cedarjet's right...CM's EZE-PTY is a bit stouter, 3323sm with their 73G/W and they do it twice daily. GRU-PTY falls in behind at 3159sm.

But the ultimate daily award goes to KLM, who go 5001sm from AMS-IAH, but of course with a 737-800 (BBJ2)...

OAG lists EZE-PTY on CM at 7h05m, which is 35m longer than the Air Pacific flight.

The 737-800 can pull some long range. Are there any payload restrictions?

You'll notice on one of the captions that the photographer saw three Malev 737s at Bangkok that day. Remarkable - Malev have no trouble putting the 737 on the route. Btw Lauda also fly Vienna to Colombo via Dubai.

But can we really include that, as it is a BBJ2. Or are we just talking about normaly configured 737s.

KLM operates 737's non-stop between Amsterdam and Houston in a "business-class only" configuration.

Same ticket-price and same perks as their daily 747, but the 737 takes about an hour extra.

The 737's on this route are wet-leased from a Swiss company.

Well, as of this week, the new longest B737 flight (standard configuration, not a BBJ) is CM MVD-PTY which is just a bit longer than the EZE-PTY. To start, PTY-MVD-PTY is 5 x week, going daily by years end.
Still a MVD-PTY is a long way for a YVR-PTY, even if CM does fly the B737 Boeing Field - PTY non-stop on the delivery flights.

PTY-MVD (Panama City Panama to Montevideo Uruguay) is 3385 miles, which interestingly enough is over longer than BOS-LHR. So I guess 737s in a normal configuration should be able to make some transatlantic flights, although the winds on the atlantic are probably a lot stronger.

The winds on the return from Europe are one of the primary operational reasons that the 737NG in two class configuration is not used TATL.

Still, I don't know if selected Scotland / Northern Ireland / Eire - New England U.S.A. / Maritimes Canada could still be flown by B737-700 with 100+ passengers in 2 classes. An ABZ-EWR route comes to mind.

Am I the only one that thinks that 6-8 hours on a 737 sounds miserable? I know that the BBJ or biz only equipped aircraft would be just like flying on a regular business jet, but those other flights sound absolutely unbearable!

I've been on the IAH-ANC flight. It was scheduled for 7hr 15min. F/A's only made one pass through the cabin. Food was horrible, undercooked pizza and a salad with brown lettuce. Good thing I brought my own supply of nuts and berries.

I don't think I ever really appreciated how vast our country was until I was on a domestic flight that was over 7 hours.

I once took Amtrak in coach from Boston to Seattle, so I can tolerate anything, 7 hours in a 737 wasn't really so bad.

I once flew Copenhagen-Sharm el Sheikh, onboard a Maersk Air 737-7L9.

The flight was 5 hours and 20 minutes.

IMHO that was a little to long in an aircraft of that size. It doesnt exactly help either, that im 6"7'. Very very cramped.

I took our family on Westjet to OGG, with a leg from YVR to OGG. One direction the leg was 6.5 hours.

The aircraft was a 738, with 34" pitch, seatback TV ( no sat TV after 1 hour, but PPV movies).

I had had way worse 4 hour legs.

depending on winds, transcons run 5-6 hours also..many are flown with 737's and A319/A320's too..

in fact, AS MIA-SEA service is 6 to 6 1/2 hours...

A few years ago, AB made big (positive) fuss about the fact that their new B738W got delivered to TXL flying nonstop from SEA.
This was a ferry-flight with tail winds of course and probably should not count in this thread, but still those 4400 nm / 5064 mi (SEA-TXL) look impressive for a non-BBJ(2).

Kenya Airways operates NBO-BKO-DKR-BKO-NBO year-round. The BKO-NBO sector is 5183km (longer than HNLNAN, but shorter than EZEPTY).

However, BKO-NBO is longer trip time than EZEPTY - 07:30. That is a lot of time to be in a little plane.

ANA was a recent launch customer for the B737-700ER. The aircraft will effectively be a B737-700 fuselage with B737-800 wings and landing gears (i.e. similar to the current B737-700 Boeing Business Jet).

I am sure that once it enters service, it will likely be placed on longer distance regional routes. Distance is supposed to be 5,510 nm and first delivery is early 2007.

There are three THY 737-800s waiting for the delivery flight in PAE this week. They were supposed to leave today but i don't know what the deal is.. They are going to load those babies up with 20 tons of fuel and send them to BIKF. I was talking to captains few days ago and they said they could despatch those things to N. Ireland from Seattle area but they play safe and land in BIKF.

THY's new deliveries are without winglets in case you are wondering.

Astraeus (UK charter airline) have operated/still operate some very long 737 routes with their 73Gs...

Gatwick to Malabo in Equatorial Guinea - 3,337 nautical miles (6,183km), 7hrs 15 mins flying time. This is/was a weekly flight carrying personnnel in support of Equatorial Guinea's growing oil industry. (Not sure if they still fly this route).

Astraeus have also operated the 73G from Gatwick to Deer Lake, Canada.
