Travel Thru Atlanta

Tue Aug 15, 2006 7:39 pm

How is Atlanta as far as flight delays/long lines, etc. are concerned? How early do I need to get to the airport?

Have there been any major lines in the last few days? Naturally, i have to check luggage, and have a mid morning flight

Getting back to normal. Calculate 30 minutes to pass security, this is worst possible scenario right now. Time spent at the ticketcounter depends on your airline ..

Thanks - so with an e-ticket and on line check in, 30 minutes for security, 20 minutes to return rental car, 20 minutes to check luggage, and 10 minutes to get to the gate - 2 hours in advance should be OK

That's usually when I leave home. And I live in Alpharetta.  silly

HI Airport North? (there are several HI North's in Atlanta). Being in morning rush/peak hour - if you take the 7am you're fine and should also have plenty of time for a Starbucks.

One thing is for sure..... You'll probably be number 33 for takeoff at some point especially if you're flying out in the morning. Too much trafiic....reminds me of EWR.

Have you flown through ATL since the debanked the flights? The delays are nowhere near where they used to be...and they were horrid.

Yes I have but it was at night and I figured traffic was just low. I must be wrong then coz last day flight out of ATL I had was horrible (traffic).

Check out http://www.atlanta-airport.com since there is more than one. Try Paschal's instead if you can. You can eat Chili's anywhere.

I'm not saying you won't get delays but I've noticed a lot less these days. I've been in those 30+ deep lines on the taxiway and I haven't seen one in over a year.

The new runway also has helped a lot.

I flew thru ATL 3 times so far this year, once on FL and twice on DL. I have to say on one flight we were # 1 for takeoff. I couldn't believe it! But the other two times we were #20 something. That one time had to be a one-of-a-kind fluke!

Update - travel thru Atlanta is pretty easy - hotel recommended 6:30 AM shuttle bus for 9AM flight - check in on NWA is easy with e-kiosks - platinum line took 10 minutes max - no smoking area in terminal D, so went back to C, smoked, used the ladies room, went back to D, got breakfast at Quizno's, biggest problem - falling asleep while waiting to board my flight

I've been to ATL numerous times in the morning on redeye flights. Luckily I never had the option to start at ATL, otherwise the lines would be hectic in the AM. However, ATL is very busy from 6am til 9am, and god knows how long the lines are. I figure a good half an hour or so. I had to connect thru ATL at 7:30am and tranffered between two terminals and overheard a passenger said she waited in the sercurity line for nearly 2 hours and almost missed her flight.

Too be on the safe side, I'd leave the hotel at 6:30am or earlier.

sandwhich for breakfast?????? Chick-fil-A doesn't server chickfilas that early. The server something way better. Its like a mini chickfila but it is on a biscuit similar to one you would get at Popeyes or KFC.

Sounds like another day when several severe t-storms have passed through. Flights get backed up pretty back because of that, but the employees usually manage to make up a good portion of that, e.g. through turning a CDG-bound 777 in just 60 minutes  Wink .
