Tunnel To Link Domestic-Intl. Terminals In Caracas

Thu Aug 17, 2006 1:07 pm

Apparentely the long walk outdoors currently needed to get from the international terminal to the domestic one will be a thing of the past. Apparentely somewhere there's gonna be a tunnel connecting both terminals (I haven't seen anything), which is scheduled to open soon.

This tunnel is badly needed as it is a pain in the ass to walk with all your luggage from one terminal to the other, especially if it's raining.

This has been speculated since I first started flying into CCS domestic and onto an Int'l flight......that was 1997.

Yes, it is really needed, maybe adding some moving walkways or something....but I won't believe it until I see it. Although I have seen recent reports written by you and other people flying into CCS and the airport looks a lot different than it did back in the days.

Not good. The bridge is still in shambles, and the transport time is long from Maiquetia to downtown Caracas.

I was there last month, going again this month and this is what I saw:

This is the bypass road that everyone must go through because of the collapsed bridge. Traffic jams at the both ends of the bypass road are always a pain in the ass.

Good idea, a tunnel. It really doesn't have to be so expensive, just a walkway and shade or some kind of cover would be good too. And clear directions make a difference too.

But are they working on it? This traffic hazard is one of the reasons I skipped CCS this year. Hopefully next summer we'll have a new bridge? This is an excellent opportunity for the current government to show what they can really accomplish before the elections  Wink

Lamedianaranja: Somewhat ironic that the American is giving the Venezuelan information on this topic, but yes there is activity there to remedy the situation. I will ask my hosts next time when they think it will be ready.
