MCI In The 70's And 80's

Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:22 pm

I have always been interested in MCI. I have never flown into Kansas City, but there is something about the airport that sparks a interest in me. I was looking at flight schedules from the 70's and 80's. It looks like TWA and Braniff had medium operations there. They both had about 60 flights a day. United served many destinations from MCI, but only had about 16 flights a day.

Then in the early 80's, Eastern started their hub in MCI. My question is. What terminal did TWA, Braniff, Eastern, and United use back in this time? I remember seeing a Braniff II timetable and it showed they had all the gates in terminal A & B.

I'll try.....UA was in C...TW was in B
I think BN was in A but I'm not sure.
Ea I believe took over where BN was because I remember taking an EA
DC-youknowwhat from DTW in the summer of 86 and we disembarked in
a jetway with Braniff markings.
Anybody else on this, please?
If two people agree on EVERYTHING, then one isn't necessary.

Eastern was in the terminal that presently hosts US AIRWAYS. I think it is "A" but maybe you could get a map somewhere to make sure. They pretty much occupied the same gate areas as present-day US AIRWAYS plus a few more. Their Eastern Express (Air Midwest) operation was where US AIRWAYS EXPRESS (Air Midwest) is today as well.

Eastern did not serve MCI until they made it a hub. For many years, no Eastern and then BAM!.....Eastern was the dominant carrier.
