Thanks for that bit of info. I had actually never heard of that airline, but found it very interestin to check out their website. I was surprised how large it is and the number of cities it serves.

Are these flights seasonal or year round?

I take it Siberia Airlines and Transaero use DME as their Russian departure point?

Carl, I was too surprised at the size of the airline. In fact I only heard about Pulkovo when this news was announced.

Well the schedule shows the flights up until 28/03/07, so either they're seasonal services or they still haven't uploading the schedule for S07.

Yes Transaero Airlines and Siberia Airlines services are from Domodedovo (DME).

Is there a high demand on this route that they're using an IL-86 instead of a Tu-154 ?

The Russian market has been booming since 2004. Latest figures from the first quarter of 2006 shows a 45 per cent increase in Russian tourist arrivals over the same period last year.

You also have Egypt's Travco travel agency who agreed with Mostravel, the company's agent in Russia, to increase the frequency of seven winter flights to 18 weekly flights to Sharm El-Sheikh and 13 to Hurghada as opposed to 14 and 12 weekly flights in 2006 respectively.*

Egypt is the second most important leisure destination from Russia with just over half a million tourists (Turkey is number one with 1.5 million)**

Hurghada has always been popular with Russians and in recent years Sharm El Sheikh has seen a rapid growth in arrivals from the country.

So to answer your question, yes the demand is there to suffice the use of the IL-86.
