Let The Truth Be Told : ORD And The A380?

Tue Aug 22, 2006 4:11 am

Hi guys,

before anyone criticizes this topic I'd like everyone to know I searched the forums and didn't really find the answer I was looking for..

just wondering, will ORD ever see A380 service? I think they are currently preparing for the jumbo, but I'm not sure. the only airline I could see flying it into ORD would be LH, maybe KE, but I would rather see a LH / AF A380 service? does LH have the loads to send the A380? I don't think AF's ORD loads are great enough for the A380...? any info and/or thoughts greatly appreciated...

thanks in advance,

RYan

You could probably count on seeing the A380 at Chicago O'Hare.

It would have to be from a slot controled airport. With all the multiple frequency flights on AA and UA an airline would only use an A380 if they had too. Now if BA ever gets off their ass (pardon me, arce) and orderd the plane I could see it from LHR. The plane is designed to help airlines restrained by slots or in some casses bi-lateral (frequency) constraints.

ORD would not be a primary destination for A380s but it would probably be a secondary destination. Once enough of them are available, ORD would probably be a good destination as it is getting very close to imposing slot restrictions, escalating from the current informal restructions. The most likely destinations would be LHR, which already has restrictions and FRA which is approaching its capacity.

Perhaps you will see one at ORD in 7 to 10 years.

The forecasts used to support the OMP show a few 380 operations begining around 2015. This corresponds to the opeing of phase two of the project. It is unlikely that any U.S, Airport will have any more than a few operations since like the Concorde the main purpose of the airplane is to show that it can be built not that it can make money.

G´day

By HRM RB´s left buttock BA is na planning to use there A 380´s into ORD. There 350-900 or 350-1000 will be plenty hardware for ORD, with ORD not yet the perfect jewel in BA´s destination list.

So much for BA´s future long haul fleet - excuse I for mees kings english.

Cheers

No problem, growing up in San Francisco, I learned plenty of "queens" English.

thanks for all the responses. so it doesn't look like ORD will see the A380 until about 2015? I thought It'd be rather soon for LH, guess not.

ORDRyan28 - LH fully intends on bringing the A380 into ORD sometime in the future (as mentioned in that post I brought to your attention a couple of days ago.) Right now there are 3 daily FRA-ORD (summertime, maybe back down to 2 now) flights, not to mention the 2 UA flights. Plenty of passengers to justify the A380, certainly during the peak summer season. Its not a matter of if, but of when. They will make room for it at ORD when they bring it in. As for AF, I don't think so. KE? Maybe, but not likely. FX or UPS perhaps, someday. Maybe Emirates, because where else are they going to send all of their A380's???

great post, thanks. I'm sure LH will bring the A380 in now that I think about it-It did say that in the post you sent me previously (thanks again for that). I doubt KE would bring the A380, maybe the 787? alsom I was wondering, what is ORD doing, if at all, to prepare for the A380's arrival? does the aircraft require two gates at terminals?
