Saudi Arabian Airlines Passenger B742s

Tue Aug 22, 2006 6:40 am

According to Amadeus and SV's online schedule the airline will be operating several 'additional'/charter services to Cairo/Egypt over the next few weeks which usually happens at the end of the summer season. However some of these charters are operated with 2-class B747-200s. My question is where did SV get these B742s from? AFAIK they only operate B741s, B743s, B744s in passenger configurations. Their sole B742 (HZ-AIU) is a freighter:

On the JED-CAI route they operate 4x daily B777/B743/B744 scheduled flights (SV301/303/305/307), however to meet the high demand at the end of the season at least 14 additional weekly services will be added with a mixture of A300-600s/B777s/B747s. The B742 will be operating:
SV3304 and SV3306 on 22/08
SV3300 and SV3309 on 24/08
SV3306 and SV3308 on 25/08
SV3304 and SV3300 on 27/08
SV3300 and SV3316 on 28/08
SV3302 on 29/08
SV3302, SV3304 and SV3308 on 30/08
SV3306 on 31/08

On the MED-CAI route they operate 5x weekly MD-90/B777 scheduled flights (SV317/319), however they're also operating extra B742 flights on the route at the end of August:
SV2300, SV2302, SV2304 and SV2306 on 31/08 (4 B742 flights in one day in addition to the B777 scheduled flight!)

On the RUH-CAI route they operate 3x daily B777/B743 flights (SV310/312/314), however the B742s will also operate a few additional flights:
SV3314 and SV3312 on 22/08
SV3310 and SV3008 on 25/08
SV3312 and SV3316 on 26/08
SV3314, SV3322 and SV3324 on 27/08
SV3310 on 28/08
SV3330 on 29/08
SV3310 on 31/08

So where did SV get these B742s from? Judging by the schedule there must be more than one B742 in use. How long will they be leased for?

And does this mean SV is the only airline to still operate all B747 variants (-100/200/300/400) on passenger flights?

Don't forget about the SV -SP's! They aren't used for regualr folk, but SV stills looks after them.

Could they be B747-200s wet-leased for Hajj charters?

Well indeed if you consider the Royal fleet then you can add the SP. But in relation to the airline itself they 'only' use the B741/2/3/4 variants

Hey SoAps! How's it goin?

SV use the B777 to DKR via CMN (SV357) and the B741 to KAN (SV401). Both are weekly flights

The Hajj season is in December06/January07.

So far Air Atlanta is "only" operating three B747-300s and one B747-200F freighter for SV.

And TF-AMC, the freighter, is now sporting the full tail colors as well, seen at IAH this week a couple of times...

I was hoping you'd see this thread Thomas_Jaeger. I guess the origin of the B742(s) will remain a mystery.
