I agree with you Jacobin777. The 772LR would look especially nice with the blue tail. Big grin

Great to see the EK parked up at Terminal 2 as well after years of operation out of Terminal 1.

I do not like the new PIA tails, they should have kept the previous design with the Pakistan flag on the tail which looks good.

PIA should have stuck to this, it would have been better on a 743 than 742.

Longer upper deck gives it a better appearence than the 742.

Absolutely agree. I always admired the old livery. One could recognize the green tail from far away. There aren't too many airlines around with green color.

If PIA wants to keep the flag tail, then at least have some color background. One suggestion is to have a light color grape-vine background they used to have some years back.

Good to see PIA experimenting with liveries. I think all airlines should come up with occasional special liveries coinciding with events (e.g. FIFA World Cup, Cricket World Cup, etc)

I agree with you. I liked the flag much better than these new tails, they're basically a remix of the BA world tails which I didn't care much for.

I have to disagree with you, Ordryan....

Although there is similarity to the BA "world tails", the difference is in the fact that the unique designs are local in origin, rather than random influenced "world art".

I have to wonder if the flag tailed variation of the current scheme was a stop-gap for PIA while they were waiting for the final art work to be produced?

I notice that at the top of the tails there is the PIA script, wouldn't that be considered more traditional than the PIA letters?

To appease everyone, could the top of the new tail (from the white band up) be painted the distintive green, with the script in white? or perhaps script on one side, letters on the other? ....Just a thought...

I mean, I don't hate these tails, I just thought the flag looked really stylish. I'm sure I'll get used to them.

At LHR on Wednesday (6 September) two PIA 747s landed within an hour of each other. The first (at 1337 hours local time) was AP-BAK. It was painted with one of PIA's new tails:

Note the inscription on the upper rear fuselage reading: 'Thar Colours of the Desert'.

I assumed that this inscription referred to the tail image although I was damned to think how to associate the colour blue with the desert until I thought of the sky!

Less than an hour later AP-BFX arrived (at 1521 hours). It - trust me - had an identical tail design. But the inscription read 'Karachi Green Turtle Water'.

So does the inscription on the rear fuselage have nothing to do with the image? Or is there a gross mistake in painting one of these aircraft?

(Yes. I do have photos - three in fact - of AP-BFX arriving taken from Myrtle Avenue. But I have no idea how to include them in my reply. So as I said, trust me and trust my camera.)

Yah I noticed the different text too but the tail represents a province so maybe they'll have different text with the same tail.

Interesting. AP-BAK is identified by the word 'Thar' which is a desert in south east Pakistan in Sind province. AF-BFX is similarly identified by the word 'Karachi' that is the capital city of Sind province. So it looks as if while several aircraft could end up with the same tail they could also all have different inscriptions on the upper rear fuselage. Similarly there may be no direct relationship between the phrase (like 'Green Turtle Water') on the rear fuselage and the tail design (which explains why the predominant colour in this case is not green but blue).

This tail represents Province of Sindh in the South, Thar is the abbreviated term for the desert of Tharparkar which covers most of the central part of the province, the script "Colours of the Desert" has only been added to identify what the region is associated with, it does not relate to the tail.

Karachi "Green Turtle Waters" - endagered Green Turtles come to lay eggs on beaches of Karachi.

Thatta "Treasures of the Past" - used to be a major city with alot of culture and history associated with it and surrounding area.

In brief the tail represents Hala design work found all over Sindh, and has nothing to do with region(Thar), city(Karachi) or town(Thatta) nor the associated script for each.

Same goes for all the rest, Dark Blue tail is from Province of Punjab so far mentioning:

Lahore(city) "Garden of the Moghuls" - it was once Moghual Empires capital.

Murree(town/hill station) "Scent of Pines" - Pine Trees surround the place, recently applied to an A310.

Beige is from North West Frontier Province(NWFP) it so far only mentions:

Peshawar(city) "Gateway to the East" - as it was once upon a time.

Geometric one on the ATR represents Province of Balochistan mentioning:

Gwadar(town) "New Port City" - up and coming to be an alternative to Karachi's Port.

Quetta(city) "Natures Orchard" - known for fruit orchards around it, applied to a 737.

Quoting Sammyk (Reply 27):

Yes, as explained above, more places and scripts to come.

NOTE these tails are not special or short term as most people think marking some occasion, but are permanent and will be applied to the whole fleet.
