4 DL Employees Hit By Lightning In ATL

Tue Jun 27, 2000 9:54 am

Approximately at 7:00pm the operations at ATL Hartsfield International came to a hault, while a thunderstorm moved over. All ramp agents and airline personell were ordered to vacate the ramp. This usually happens when lightning is within a half mile to a mile away from the field.
Right before that call went out lightning struck a 757 which was parked and chalked at B concoarse in ATL. Three DL ramp agents were injured as well as a DL mechanic. The plane was checked then cleared.

Tritanic: I drove past Hartsfield on I-85 at exactly that time a little while ago. That was a nasty storm!!! I stopped by the airport for just a minute to spot at Mercury air center, but did not know there had been a strike at B concourse. DAMN!!! All I saw was the 7:00pm traffic jam in line for take off, no doubt slowed up by that storm.

Later,

Ben

I would like to be a Ramp Agent, You know, cuz you get to work with all these planes, ETC. I kinda think that would be the perfect Way to get my Collection, I could go in there and get stuff for my collection being that I worked for the Airline, and I could be a Non-Rev

C O O L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Ecept for getting struck by lightning, that is not fun

Good news!! No one was seriously hurt. Two went to the hospital, and from what I heard they were very lucky.

Also Beechbarron, the Mercury air center is a fantastic place to spot, especially up on the hill there. I jog that route at least 3 times a week and always stop around sunset!!!
