Some Aircraft At MIA

Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:37 am

Hello Miami spotters, I have some questions for you about some aircraft I noticed around the airport after arriving on an AA eagle hop from Nassau. Parked near the UPS ramp and the private jets, I was happy to see a grey military 707, but I was unable to see what air force it belongs to, does anyone know? Also, the maintenance area is usually packed with interesting planes, but yesterday seemed especially noteworthy as I saw another 707 (which I rarely ever see here) parked next to a bright orange 737 200, and an ATA L1011 in the old colors... I guess my questions are- what is the story with the 2nd 707, what airline would paint a 737 bright orange besides Braniff, and is the L1011 heading towards scrapping, or is it pilfering parts from the other all white L1011 parked over there which was damaged in the hurricane last year? Thanks for the info, sorry for having so many questions!

IIRC, it's there for parts and such from the other derelict L1011s, and will soon rejoin ATA. I'm sure other members can help you out with information on the 707s and the 737.

the orange 737 has Air Canada Zip colors

I only saw one 707, the one that's white with some red line on fuselage, that's an ex Spanish Air Force.

The ATA L1011 is supposedly going to help with parts for the white L1011 that was there as you mentioned (but I didn't see it when I passed by yesturday..)

The ATA looking so majestic in the classic colors compared to the other white planes there. Beautiful L1011.

Anyone works at Commercial Jet? I'd like to know where's the white F28 going to. It had an N-reg. I think it has been there for a while.

Behind an all-white 757 there was the tip of a tail of either an aero(contractors) of Nigeria or Schreiner Airways ... coudln't see the rest of the plane.

Ok, that was the one over by the ATA L1011 then, there was another 707, definitely a current service military bird, parked over by the GA and UPS aircraft, but it was probably only around for a short time (I taxied past at around 8 pm yesterday). Thanks for the other info guys!

You are correct. The ex-ATA L-1011 (N194AT) was purchased from us for parts to repair the all-white freighter N306GB. What is left after that will be scrapped  Sad Yes, she is a beauty and always got the attention of photographers due to her classic gold/blue livery. Rest in pieces old girl  tombstone
