Iranian Carriers Cut Central Asian Routes

Iran Air have ended service to Turkmenistan(Ashkabad) and Kazakhstan(Almaty) both were served with A310-200/300 nonstop from Tehran, Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent is now the only destination they serve in the region and that too has been brought down to an F100 from A310.

Another carrier Iran Aseman Airlines pulled out of the region completely last year they were operating to Tajikistan(Dushanbe) and Kyghyzstan(Bishkek) from Mashad with F100.

maybe the support of these governments to the US...as always linked to the nuclear problem on Iran

In Eastern Asia Iran Air have dropped Bangladesh where Dhaka was served nonstop from Tehran with an A310 once a week.

Near the entire A310 fleet is completely grounded due lack of spares. I would say has more to do with a lack of equipment then anything else.

Politically I'm not surprised, Central Asia (other than Tajikistan) has much closer trade and travel relations with Turkey.

Some times the US don't allow the selling of product which contains US-made components...maybe Airbus's spares are made with US components...because, as I know, Airbus is an european company, not US!

Is Iran Air likely to be getting any Tu-204's and/or Il-96's soon to get around the US Sanctions as Cuba has done and Syria plan to do

Many of Airbus components (starting with the engines), are US made, and consequently subject to US government embargo. Although Airbus is assembled in Europe, it could not fly without US components. The best example are avionics - digital electronics technology is completely dominated by American companies. Even large European electronic companies that make avionics (BAE, Thales, ...) use mostly American components and technology. For example most, if not all, microprocessors are American - Intel, Motorola, AMD, ....

But don't worry about the US boycott.

The bat crazy Iranian President will soon design airliners that fly on nuclear fuel as part of his peaceful nuclear power strategy.

And Iran Air can fly daily nonstops to Ashkabad with its Ayatollah A-707-Ns (the N stands for Nuclear).

Anyone have any idea how those markets do in general for other carriers? I know LH/BA/OS/TK have sizeable ops to the Caucasus and Central Asia. I'm hoping to take the LH flight to GYD/ASB in the Fall!

There arent to many airlines from non-European countries flying to the region, PIA used to serve Alamty, Tashkent, Ashkabad and Baku and they have quit, Indian Airlines code share to Tashkent and maybe Bishkek, then there is Asiana in Almaty, China Southern in four republics plus Baku and the plan on starting Ashkabad, Air Arabia serve only Kazakhstan, Iran Air are also in Baku.
