Conviasa To BOA And MAO, Short Term

Sat Aug 26, 2006 2:35 am

Conviasa will be landing in the next months in Boa Vista and Manaos.
My guess is ATR-42 equipment from PMV.

They say they will be "filling the gap" left by Brazilian carriers in those airports.

In the long term they expect to land in:
SDQ
AUA
PTY
LIM
EZE
Antigua & Barbuda (?????)

After flying to these destinations, they will start flying to the USA.

No news regaring Europe, I think the A342 will stay parked in ORY for a long time...

Lets see if all these plans actually comes true.

Good news! Good to see Conviasa expanding.
With what equipment are they planning to fly to EZE?

To EZE?....with the ATR 42....

If they went all the way to BEY with a 737-200.....why can´t they go to EZE with the ATR.....

BOA is the IATA code of Boma, Boa Vista`s is BVB.

Is V0 still interested in PU?
Does V0 have any plan of flying to MVD?

Conviasa might probably get by the end of the year a 3rd B737-200 ex. Global Air from Mexico. Global Air is currently in the States searching for a B732s.

Thanks for the correction

No. Conviasa management was replaced and apparentely PU plans were dropped.

Not in the near future... expect EZE and GRU first.

Ghost, are the current two 732s wet or dry leased?

I guess these are good news for the airline, however if they're to fly to all those destinations (EZE, GRU, etc) they should get some serious aircraft and not send those worn 732s.

Why don't they use the A342 parked at ORY? It makes no sense to me to add a 763 to the fleet when the A342 is parked and waiting to be used... I think that's a better target than MAD, which is currently pretty full and well attended.

I hope they handle things rightly.

ETOPS.... that's why. With the A342 you can cross the pond without ETOPS limitations. The 763 is intended for intra-america flights which don't need ETOPS certification. EZE and GRU mainly. Apparently the 763 has already been acquired, it is in the desert waiting for V0 to call it for duty (ex-UA).

Huh, big limitation then!

What does it take to get ETOPS certification? Some special amount of training right? If that's so, then It'd take years for V0 to get ready...

For what I understand, ETOPS certification is given to an aircraft type, not to an airline.

Cheers!

Could that service to/from EZE make a stop in VVI?
Has V0 ever considered starting a partnership with LB?

Hmm, I might be confused then. Aircraft do get ETOPS certifications, but I thought crew should be prepared for this kind of procedures, am I right?

I believe that if the crew is certified to fly an ETOPS aircraft, then they can surely handle an ETOPS procedure.

Cheers!

Why from Margarita, far far way from Caracas, 400 Km?
Varig is resuming MAO-CCS next week and looks like GOL will launch this same route.
Good luck for all of them.

Both count really. E.g. Boeing T7 ETOPS is given to all operators but it depends on their former experience how long the range is. It may vary somewhere between 180 to 240 minutes.

Wow! That's quite a lot for an airline who's coming back to life!
Good to hear about it, though...

Now, how will this be handled when GOL starts the route?

Little correction, will be 3 M11 and 12 733 effective tomorrow with resumed flights to BSB, CWB and POA (more services)

Luis, i would include on the list REC and GIG. Both due to oil reasons:

REC: the project between PDVSA and Petrobras for a new big oil refinery.
GIG: Oil market as CCS, also main center on south america for shipyards and petrochemical industry.

Quoting 797 (Reply 19):

RG will face problems as they will fly CCS-MAO-GRU with 733 in a single class, just the same way as Gol with better aircraft (738) and lower costs. Also Gol is a bigger player at MAO than Varig nowadays, with flights to BEL, BVB, BSB and very soon GIG. Gol will be the king of the route very quickly!
