SAA's Low Cost Carrier

Mon Aug 28, 2006 3:57 pm

Hi all

Check this out: http://www.sundaytimes.co.za/articles/article.aspx?id=st6a203900

SAA are starting a low cost carrier to try win back pax that are currently using the South Africa's other carriers (1time, kulula.com etc)

The long and short of it:

- 4x B737-800's
- 26 return flights per day
- Destinations: Jo'burg, Cape Town, Durban and Bloemfontein(!!)

I wonder what in-flight service this new LCC won't offer that SA does. I also agree that 4 aircraft for 26 flights a day is pushing it, it sounds like they will need more.

I flew on CE JNB-DUR and return, and I was fairly impressed with their service, not quite the quality of SA, but still very good. Especially considering CE was a fair price, and, for some reason, SA wanted an arm and a leg, which they usually don't.

I don't see the point, every time I have booked a flight online domestically in the last few months SAA has been cheaper than 1Time and Kulula.

Bloemfontein(!!)

That's interesting... SAX just bought 2 Q400s and they use them exclusively on George and Bloem but I didn't think the traffic could justify a 738.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Perhaps it will just be to kill 1time off the route? With that done, they could then hand the route back to SAX.

No inside info or anything, just thinking out loud...
