AFX: Airbus To Build Additional Model Of A350

Mon Aug 28, 2006 4:35 pm

PARIS (AFX) - EADS unit Airbus, which said it would make three models of its A350 passenger jet when announcing a recent overhaul of its design, is planning an additional fourth model for long-haul flights, the daily La Tribune said, without citing sources.

The paper also said Airbus sources confirmed plans to build a cargo version of one of the models

Not news.

Proposed models are as follows according to many previous sources:

350-800
350-900
350-900LR
350-900F
350-1000

5 planned models at launch is possible. The planned chronological order is:

A350-900
A350-800
A350-1000
A350-900R
A350-900F

So, is the A-350-900F going to compete head to head with the B-777-200LRF? I thought the freighter version was going to be built off of the A-350-800 airframe, making it the A-350-800F? Any chance that Airbus actually make it the A-350-900LRF?

It would be wise for airbus to use the -900 length for the A350 freighter. Not only will this allow them to go after the 777F, but it also allows the A332F to have a larger share of the market and a longer production period, perhaps becoming the spiritual successor to the A300F

I suspect it will be just plain -900F.

It will have the -900R's MTOW and engines, but range will be less (just like the 777F isn't a 777LRF because its range is a lot less than the 772LR).

Correct. Many threads on this already.
Probably worth linking this item from FI which covered most of the topic at the time. (25th July)

IIRC the 3 "base" PAX versions will be launched first. The A350-900R and A350F will come later (but planned from the start) and be based on the A350-1000 MTOW and engines (see article)

Not necessarily. It's a bit smaller (90t capacity vs 104t for thr LRF)

No, see article.

It will have the -900R's MTOW and engines

Which will be based on the -1000's MTOW and engines  checkmark .
