UA First Seat On 767-300 Int..The Replacement?

Tue Aug 29, 2006 2:42 am

I have in the last few days flown LHR-LAX-LHR in F on UA. On the flight out I flew UA 939, being a 767-300 with a "standard first seat" and returned today on UA934 being a 777 with the sleeper suite.
My question is does anybody know what UA are going to replace those F seats with on the 767 once they start reconfigering the International Fleet.
With the flat seats in J, its inconceivable to have a more comfortable seat in J than thats which is in F.
Anybody got any idea's, will they put, sleeper suites on the 767, or will they be too big?
Anybody got any thoughts.
I would say that both seats are very comfortable and the service was fantastic. Thanks to the London crews for looking after me.

That cannot and will not happen, for two reasons. First, pod type sleeper seats like on United's other long haul aircraft are too heavy for the floor loading of the 767. Lots of airlines studied using them on their 767 fleets but found that they would be ripping up their floors and various other headaches. The second problem is that they do take quite a bit of space and would hurt the revenue drawing ability of the aircraft. The best thing United could do is remove F from their 767 fleet and increase the size of C while upgrading to a Spacebed, Virgin or Air Canada type product.

I'd love to see a new first class on the 767s. Those seats are over a decade old design wise. United never put the suites in to the 767s. Some say it was because of the weight. I personally wonder if United will retain first class on the 767s. The 767s do operate on all many transatlantic routes I think it is a bad idea to have the 767 and 777/747 flying between the same cities (like LAX-LHR, IAD-LHR and others). It gives an incosistent product. By dumping first class on those planes, they would not have inconsistencies. Is first class needed on all of those routes? UA hasn't been flying to smaller destinations in Europe though, so maybe they need the seats. The wild card is South America. Do those flights warrant first class?

It is hard to say what will be done. I'm sure United's management has been thinking about it though. United is the only airline that I can think of that has three class 767s with First, Business and Economy on long haul international routes.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I am of the view that UA will put a new F product on the 767, but for the life of me I dont know what.
