Air One In Star Alliance?

Wed Aug 30, 2006 7:57 am

Hi, I'm very surprised that Italy's Air One (AP) hasn't yet joined the Star Alliance as I think it would be a perfect fit as it is a "Partner of Lufthansa." Best regards from Timetable.

Does LH own them or are they independently owned?

I have to admit I didn't even know about this airline, but I checked their website and they would seem to be a good fit for Star.

Per their website, they're "controlled" by Gruppo Toto, "one of the leading building and civil engineering businesses in Italy". It appears that they only have a partnership with LH.

LH and AirOne have the same frequent flyer scheme and they codeshare on many flights. I think nearly every fight inside Italy with AirOne has also an LH code. Air One also places it's code on LH's flights.

There was an article on atwonline some time ago, where AirOne stated that they want to become a member of Star. But nothing is fixed so far.

US Airways also codeshares on a large number of Air One flights that connect with US's transatlantic flights from Philadelphia to Italy.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

AirOne is all owns by Toto Group.
Toto Group owns also AirOne Cityliner, the regional division.

Dispite AirOne and AirOne Cityliner are two different company with 2 AOC and ICAO registration, they are running by the same people in the same office.

LH is only a partner. All AP flights (except charter and few domestic routes) are in code sharing with LH.

Ap is working to join Star Alliance very soon (likely only as regional partner at the beginning).

The current AP fleet includes:

3 B737/200
6 B737/300
21 B737/400

plus 4 wet leasing planes for the summer season (1 A321 from Livingston, 1 MD83 from Spanair, 1 Fokker 100 from Trade Air and 1 MD80 from JetTran Airways)

The AP Cityliner fleets includes:

5 CRJ-900

From next month AP will take delivery of new 30 A320 (they have 60 options, it seems very soon some will become order).
Ap Cityliner will get a 6th CR9 in October.

In a long interview on local Italian press Mr. Toto said it would start long haul operation ex FCO very soon.

With Alitalia in SkyTeam, Air One in the folds of STAR ALLIANCE, should Italy's third airline, Meridiana think of partnering with BA and oneworld?
